Hi again,
So looking at getting the 140GT TDI but I will only be doing about 5000 to 7000 miles a year, most journeys being 20 minute drives with the odd hour long drive every couple of weeks. Is this low milage? Will this cause filters clogging up and making the car ill?
Should I get a petrol instead?
Thanks
7K miles a year, bad for the car?

You'll be fine with those types of journeys and the DPF will regenerate OK however you are not really getting the economic benefits of a diesel at that mileage. Personally at that mileage I would opt for the 2.0 TSI petrol.

I agree about the mileage. It doesn't really make economical sense with that low mileage to go diesel. There are some good online calculators that might be worth punching the numbers in to but diesel really only makes sense when you're going to do over 12k a year.

I would go for a petrol one if there was actually any close enough and affordable but the TDI versions are more readily available to me and are £1K to £2K cheaper.

Agreed, you have to be doing I'd say at least 12k to get any benefits of spending the extra money to get a diesel

That is surprising, generally the TDI's are a little more expensive then the petrol equivalents, then again the TDI's are likely to be higher miles hence the lower cost.

Re: 7K miles a year, bad for the car?
i too do approx 6-7k per year and at the time i was driving a Volvo C30 R Design D2 1.6 Diesel (i use to do 18k per year hence the diesel) and that use to regen the DPF either when i got home or when i got to work after my 20 minute drive so it was never geting a full regen. So when i was looking for my next car at first i was looking for the Scirocco 170 TDi as i heard the DPFs were better but then i test drove a few 2.0 TSi GTs and thats what i went for and im very happy with it, my average mpg since owing it from December 2013 is 36.5 whch for a 2.0 turbo is good!
