Air Con Issues

Post by Marshalex »

Hi

I noticed a problem with my Scirocco yesterday when turning the air con on all that happens is a hissing noise and the air doesn't come through cold. Any ideas on what the problem could be? My first thought was the gas but I don't use the air con much and have never had to get it re-filled on any other cars in the past. It's booked in for a warranty repair this week but I'm a bit wary as the dealership said there would be a £50 charge to determine the fault if it's not covered by the warranty. It only went in for a service before christmas so I assume they would have checked the levels then during the service?

Cheers

They don't check the aircon gas pressure during a normal service. I am of the belief that you should use the aircon regularly as most.people who have issues tend only to use it once in a while. Regular use.keeps everything lubricated and prevents the seals drying, which can cause leaks.

For 12 months I was guilty of not using my air con and last year I had the same issue as you. Got the air con service done and everything back to normal. It was £50 during August last year. Since then I randomly use it to and from work. This year it is still working fine

I have issues with my aircon, the car is still in warranty, it went into vw and they found that all the gas had gone, it was re-gased and a dye was put in as they couldn't find the leak, I purchased a uv pen and have found three leaks in the condenser welds where the horizontal tubes connect to the outside vertical tubes, I've taken it back in to show them and straight away they said stone damage, I said no way as there is no impact damage and it looks like failure of the welds, it's going in this week for the warranty technician to agreed the fault. I'm not impressed with the standard of the manufacturing of this part or the dealers initial response . I'll keep you all posted on this subject.

My condenser has now been replaced under warranty, the vw dealer agreed the part was faulty - it had cracks in the tube welds, I'm a bit concerned about the quality of this part and hope other drivers do not experience the same problem.
Stone damage to the condenser is also a concern with the condenser placed low on the car and the front grill does have fairly large holes for stones to get through - has anyone fitted a stone grill?

My condenser was replaced at just under a year old for the exact same reason as yours.
