Hi all. quite new to the whole scirocco thing.
But bought my first one a couple of months ago.
already having gearbox problems as has a crunch between 1st and second, and 3rd and 4th.
And has a grinding noise under acceleration which is more noticeable in 5th and 6th gears.
Looks like i need to get the box repaired as thats going to be the cheapest option as not under warranty anymore.
Just wondering if anyone can recommend anywhere?
And also wondering if the dsg boxes are alot of trouble?
Just thinking of selling it to get a manual gearbox already

The gearbox needs an oil service every 40k , has that been done?
How many miles on the car? Age?
Is it under warranty or did you buy privately?
At what point does it 'crunch' ... gear changes internal to the box happen before the car actually changes

Can you upload a video of what your talking about?
Not had many reports of the DSG playing up (apart from the 7 speed I think)

sounds like the clutches are out of tolerance
them 7 speeds aren't bullet proof like the 6 speed ones

Is not the profile on the rhs of this page, attached to the post, visible to you? He drives a 2.0 TSi - not that any of this is working towards a solution for him :-)

hi there. Sorry for the lack of replies.
Finally got the car all sorted, after first being told it was a gearbox problem, i took the car back to the dealer as i only got the car in january.
Did have a private warranty on the car but only had a £1000 limit on any claims.
Anyway they then took the car to one of there specialists and it turns out it was the clutch packs that had gone despite what everyone else had said.
But managed to get it done within the warranty, and the car drives perfectly again now anyway!

so what i said then, its a common issue on them fella once you get them done once there good to go ! think vw modified them, fit loads in my time working for them !

Just going back to the comment about DSG boxes being trouble. The answer I think generally is an emphatic no. Overall they are very reliable so long as they are looked after and maintained, I guess the 6 speed may be deemed to be the slightly safer bet on account of it having been around for longer, but the 7 speed is also a very good unit.
There have been issues regarding clutch packs/mechatronic units, but unless anyone wants to dispute my thoughts on this, it is not that common to have these replaced.

don't get me wrong there a good box ! lightning fast gear changes and smooth as you like. but I've seen a fair few coming in to vw with judders
what a lot of people don't understand or know is that, the 7 speed has adaptive drive it learns how the driver drivers and then adapts its values to suit the driver
pretty cool shit !!!
