Quirky RNS 510 Issues

Hi there,
Have trawled the search function but can't find anything relating to my RNS issue. Just wondered if anyone has any ideas as to a couple of issues I'm having with an RNS 510 unit? I'm now on my third Scirocco and have carried forward the unit from my previous '08 model, into a 2012 Bluemotion and now into my 2014 Bluemotion. When VW did the swap from the 08 to 2012 model there didn't seem to be any faults or coding issues although towards the last few months of ownership of the 2012 model it started to flag up 'Temperature Settings Unavailable At This Time'. In the current 2014 model I have had this message along with an 'OPS Unavailable at this time' message. Have done a reset, software is version 2720, voice activation installed by VW.
I'm now puzzled by the fact that the radio functions with the car at rest without the engine running but as soon as I start the engine I get a loud pop and an immediate power down of the head unit. Switch off the ignition and normal service resumes.... Am obviously taking it to the dealer to get it looked at (although warranty may be an issue with an old head unit) but wondered first if anyone else has had similar issues so that I can relay this to the workshop to find the fault quicker.
Cheers,
Rich Chester
