2.0 tdi 140 on 09 plate and 53 k manual

Got back from a town journey and parked the car. I normally give it around half a minute after stopping then switch the engine off. This time i noticed that on idle the rpm was on 1000, some rubbery burny smell from the back and temp at 90 with no issues. Popped the bonnet everything seemed ok on inspection. Seitched the car off then on again and it was down to its normal 900 rpm. At no point did i have a warning light.
Is it something of worry? Was that the dpf regenerating? What the hell was that??
Thanks
Nick

Yes, it was the DPF regenerating, so nothing to worry about.

Phew thanks mate. Looks like this dpf thing is here to stay according to the new dvla regulation that wont be passing mots if dpf removed.

Yip, it's not going away anytime soon.

When the DPF regenerates, the tickover increases slightly, car is a bit more lumpy and you get that sense of heat. If you switch off the car before the regeneration is completed the radiator cooling fans will run on for approx. 5 mins.

Not sure how long the regen time is exactly but it's in the region of 10 to 15 mins but it needs the correct operating parametets to happen.
