sudden performance drop

Hi,
On the way home tonight, I decided to give my Scirocco the beans.
After getting the engine up to temperature, I put the DSG in S-mode and floored it (20-70mph on an empty motorway on-ramp).
When I put it back in D after that, I suddenly lost most of the performance. It was like I was driving a 80hp-ish car...
No lights on the dashboard alarmed me of anything, there was just a beep every 5 or so minutes.
I pulled over at the next service-stop and let it rest for a couple minutes. When I restarted the car, everything was fine.
Any idea what this could be? Did I manage to force the car into some protection-mode?
Cheers,

Bah, happened again today (in D-mode, normal acceleration). Switched the engine off for a couple seconds and the problem was solved.
Probably some software issue
.

Sounds like limp mode. Any chance of an overboost?

Sounds like it's going into limp mode, needs plugging in. Where abouts are you??

Did some reading on this limp mode and seems like that's it indeed.
Gonna bring it over to the dealer tomorrow, hopefully nothing too expensive...
Thanks for your replies

The technicians at VW Ridgeway now found out that the exhaust is not OEM and that there may have been a remap (seemed way faster than normal to them). This may be causing an overboost.
I'm quite surprised, as I would have expected the VW dealer to tell me about this when I bought the car 2 weeks ago. Sure they would notice this during 1 of their 142 "approved" checks...

Where are u? Take it to another dealer
I doubt it was remapped and they didn't no.

It's at Ridgeway Reading atm, bought it from Lancaster Milton Keynes.
Ridgeway say they can't find out if it's been remapped (which seem odd). Contacted the Lancaster salesman and he also didn't know about any modifications...

they 100% can see if its been mapped.
Ask them to prove to you the exhaust isn't factory, get it up and look underneath.
I smell bullshit from them lol

They called me again to see if they can contact the head office. They sounded confused...
Should know more tomorrow.

I find this hard to believe, for performance vehicles (especially one like an R), VW should know if they are selling one which has had mods on it (or not).

They will know if the ECU has been 'played with' - VCDS shows how many times it has been flashed. Just had the software on my ECU updated to solve a fault and it shows it has now been flashed 3 times. The fault was at start-up from cold when there was a slight misfire. Feels like a different car now

My golf used to do this. My fault was a clogged turbo. They have moveable vanes in them that get gunned up over time. Had it stripped and cleaned out and went like a monster again HTH. P

The petrol turbos don't have variable vane turbos, it could be anything, a remap wouldn't cause this as the higher boost would be mapped into the ecu programming! We could do with the fault code tbh, then point you in the right direction.

I'll see if the folks at the dealership can tell me the fault code tomorrow. It's worrying how little they could tell me about this issue :s .

That would help pal. I've diagnosed allot of cars that the dealer has either unable to find the fault or they have blamed the fault on something else like a remap, there lack of knowledge shocks me!!
Tbh I would book the car in at a vw specialist like vag check who I think are near you :-)

They couldn't get me the fault code...
Anyhow, they "reset the computer system" and asked me to see if it pops up again.
If so, I'll probably try to find someone in the area to read it out for me before taking it back to the dealer (so I can maybe tell them how to fix it...).
On the bright side: the floor mats I ordered were in

Yeh let us know how you get on, when you get a fault code I'll be able to point you in the right direction :-)
Enjoy the motor!!

To conclude this topic:
It happened again a couple of times, which is why I let the people at Ridgeway have another go at it.
They could reproduce the issue this time and replaced the N75 valve as a result.
Let's hope this fixed all of it so I can finally enjoy my ride to the fullest
