GTS or not ??

Post by char »

Hi guys

Its come to that time to trade my company car Roc for something else, looking through the available options, I've discounted Volvo, Ford, BMW and basically narrowed it down to an Audi TT, Merc Roadster 200 or Roc GTS.

I really like the Roc but unfortunately my trade in date doesnt line up with any new version of the Roc, so I'm torn whether to stick with the Roc or not :(

So I'm after advice from any GTS drivers and how it compares (177) against the current Roc TDI 140.
I can just about squeeze the Xenon and uprated audio package, how does the audio compare, is the stock audio good enough??
DSG - Worth the extra?? Its never really bothered me changing gears normally.. or does it make driving easier e.g crawling through traffic

and why no Viper green version of the GTS!?

Thanks in advance

Not sure that you need GTS owners to give you an opinion of the engine as the 177PS unit is not unique to that model. I am also not convinced there would be any noticeable difference between the old 170 and current 177 units thats really noticeable in normal driving. As a consequence its really a question of 140 v 170/177 - which has been thoroughly discussed here in the past (with most feeling that the 170 is worth the extra money as there is a perceivable extra 'umph' to the driving experience)!)

The next part of your question is manual v DSG - this has also been done to death on here and other VW forums (pop it in to the search facility) - it comes down to personal choice. For me its the only way to go but thousands of others would not agree and would only have a manual box. You have to drive one and find out if you like it and if you do like it, is it worth the extra cash?

I for one think the standard audio is good - but I would be tempted by the Dynaudio option on my next car although at £500 or whatever it is its possibly a tricky question.

A far more important matter (that, surprisingly, you have not mentioned) is do you want to live with the bonkers stripes on the GTS and, if not, are you prepared to have them removed and also have the red mirror housings painted a more sensible colour? In my own opinion thats the real issue with the GTS as its only redeeming feature is the interior (I am not even that keen on the wheels!)

Have a look at UKlee's posts as he has done just that...

Agree with Mark V. The interior is good but I could not live with the stripes.

I am changing to a 177 Candy GTS soon (build week 40) from a Viper GT170. I love the interior, wheels, body kit but am 50/50 on the stripes. I inteend to keep the stripes, if I get fed up with them then out comes Mrs S's hair dryer and they come off. simples!!!!!!!

Dare to be different that's what I say.

Nice, my GT (not S sadly) is also BW40. When do you think you'll have it? End of October?

Hi mate sorry for the late reply, I was thinking more mid November myself depends on when the next ship is on completion of the build week.

The dealer initially said December but I can't see it being that long.

You can track your order online to see where it is, if that helps.

That seems a long wait  I ordered mine on the 30th Aug, was initially told it would be Dec delivery. It was then confirmed for build week 40 and is now on transit. So should be here end Oct / start Nov.

Yeah its cause its a company lease car, so they dovetail the end/start of each 3yr contract. Hate waiting but then it will be arriving in time for my birthday so shouldn't complain! :)
