bit of a rookie mistake but ive bought a used roc with only one key provided, i know its rule no1 but i fell in love with the car and the price was brilliant, this leads to my question, can i replace the immobliser in the car and in the current key and a purchased spare? just so on the small chance if someone had the original spare key to the car it would be rendered useless and not be able to open my car ?

I'm not sure about the Roc specifically, but in other cars I've been able to unpair all immobiliser/remote key pairings and re-learn from scratch.. I would expect there is a way to do this on the Roc too, but I'm not 100% sure how.

Of course, this wouldn't stop anyone using the physical key to open the door but then neither would replacing the immobiliser itself.

I believe thieves are able to get around the immobiliser via the can gateway? certainly a problem with BMW, in which case there must be a way of reprogramming the immobiliser but this would also require changing the key code as well.

Think you can do this with VCDS. However from reading around it it's not for the feint hearted. You might be better off taking it to a dealer

Bought my roc with only one key! Seller had lost the other one!
Had a replacement from the dealer, who activated it, and ensured the car can only be used with my 2 keys

I had this issue with my golf mk5

What they do is unprogramme the other key from your car so that it wouldnt work at all. And a new one programmed in cost me £260 at my vw dealer.

There are insurance ramifications to this - if you only have one key make sure your insurer is aware as it might invalidate your policy if the car is stolen.
