Bonnet Rod Rattle?

Post by B13NGL »

Hi all.

Had my Roc since march and i'm still very pleased with it over all.

Just wondering if anyone else had noticed this..

i seem to be getting a dull rattle under the bonnet when driving, which gets worse when on rough surfaces which in sheffield is more often than not.

i think its the bonnet rod but can't be sure i dont think its mechanical or the actual engine, has anyone else had the bonnet rod rattling and if so is there any fixes?

thanks

Hi i have found when closeing the bonnet that the holder is very lose fitting to the bonnet rod, what i do is wrap a small bit of rag round the rod were it clips in so it stops any rattle and i always have a bit of rag to take the oil level.

Hi, yes i this with mine, all i did was put a slight bend in the rod, so when its stowed away it is a tight fir between the rubber holders... job done!!... what part of sheff are you from?..im from the s20 area, we got lovely smooth roads now!!

looks like the rattle wasn't the bonnet rod, the search continues...

I had the bonnet strut rattle issue - a wad of old bath sponge underneath it stopped that ! Same sort of fix as Buster's really.

The rattle occurred at approx 1200 - 1400 rpm on my TDI whether stationery or moving. Is the rattle only there when you are moving ? If it happens when stationery too, have you opened the bonnet and put the stay in place to eliminate that ? Other members have had a rattle from under the engine bay from a heat shield being a bit loose.

Good hunting !

My rattle was the battery cover or something plastic in that area that was rattling at a certain revs - took it to the dealer and they fixed it within 10 minutes.

If you can easily replicate it and bought it from a dealer get them to take a look
