Strange noise in cabin from dashboard/engine area

Strange noise in cabin from dashboard/engine area

Hi iv got a tdi roc which has developed a strange noise which is cyclical and sounds like a grinding/rubbing/worn noise but not like a wheel bearing drone, its a rougher sounding drone. Hard to explain. Has anyone had anything similar or have any ideas?

The noise goes away sometimes when the aircon is put on but it can stikl make the noise when the heater is off. Stopped at a garage to ask a VW mechanic to listen as it had gotten quite bad. Naturally the noise disappeared when he listened. Unbelievable but typical

I've got 2 different noises both disappeared when I took a vow technician out to listen. Soon as I was nearly home they reappeared
