DRL units on a Scirocco with auto halogen headlights?

I've not really found a clear answer for this, but please forgive me if this has already been covered: A scirocco 1.4 TSI with halogen headlights, and replacing the side light/indicator unit with DRL/indicator unit (see OSRAM example below) -

I haven't used the Dectane DRL units as an example as they are not actually DRLs, they are sidelights with indicators, so they are like for like with the original connections.
So...the headlights are on with the ignition (auto), they switch off when you turn the knob 1 place clockwise (sidelights), they switch back on (headlights).
If the current side light/indicator unit is removed and replaced with the OSRAM DRL/indicator unit, surely the Scirocco would no longer have any sidelights? LED DRLs cannot legally be illuminated at the same time as the headlights unless they are dimmed, which is the case on many modern cars.
So what are the options for having DRLs on a Scirocco with halogen headlights that function in the correct way?
