Tapping Sound from Engine Bay

Dear gentlemen,

Last saturday i picked up my RocR from VW and i had it tuned to ABT Stage 1. I was soo happy and have been driving around with my RocR

That evening after driving around, i stopped and was out from the car while the engine was running and idling.

I notice there was a tapping sound.. tap tap tap tap.. continuously. It's that not loud but noticeable.

Today i went to VW and ask my dealer to check the tapping sound. The technician came back and asked me whether i upgraded it to Stage 1, and i replied yes. He said the tapping sound most probably due to the Stage 1 coz all this while he never encountered any tapping sound from a stock RocR. In my head i was like 'really?' can a ECU remapped cause the tapping sound??

Anyway, he said he can diagnose it out but i need to make an appointment. So i've talked to my dealer, she will book me a slot and will get back to me.

Any one here with Stage 1 or stock R had experienced something like i did? Hope to hear from you guys.

Thanks

Engines tap, especially TFSI/TSI ones. If they didn't then they'd be silent, wouldn't they??
What you describe sounds normal to me... tap tap tap, but not too loud.

I've had three TFSI/TSI and they all tapped. Ticking might be a better description of the noise.

Yes, i would also say ticking. It's normal that they tick more when having them tuned.
It's the injectors you hear.

Yep mine sounds like a quiet diesel... especially when you first start up.

This is the stock TSI tapping sound...
BTW this is the first time I've seen the keyless start and locking.

Gentlemen,

I really appreciate your reply and explaination.

It gives me a relief to know that it is normal for TFSI/TSI engine to have the ticking sound.

Thanks Macman for the video, and the engine sound from the video is what i'm hearing on my engine..

Thank you so much guys.

Just seen on Sky TV how American scientists solved the engine knocking by adding alcohol to slow down the combustion (RON values). But as it was not so abundantly cheap they found TEL (tetraethyl lead) yet it caused madness and later death and is why we now use Unleaded albeit with the knocking!

Is this the same tapping/ticking seen in this video? Right now its the only thing stopping me from buying the car. Any help appreciated

it could be a warn timing chain tensioner if the noise is from the right hand side of the engine about £300 to fix

You'll struggle to find a timing chain tensioner where the R is concerned as the R is belt driven.
