Scirocco Central

Basically the handling in my car didn't feel right so got a 4wheel geometry check which highlighted drivers front wheel had too much negative camber.

So the car got booked into VW for its service, they had to drop the subframe to resolve the camber issue, also got 2No. Goodyear eagle F1s fitted to the front.

Car now handles great apart from a slight buzzing/vibration through the pedals and footwell.

This only happens between 65-70mph.

I have had experience of out of balance wheels/tyres in the past but this is sort of different.
No shake or shimmy through seat or steering wheel.

If it makes sense it is a very light vibration but still very annoying.

Any ideas?

I was hoping it might be the front or rear wheels need rebalanced, as I think they rebalanced the rear tyres due to a very minor buckle, not visable (although I never felt this before they had the car)..

Just to give you an update... is from another post in tech talk but really more looking for advice on this issue..


I swapped my front wheels over to the back and the buzzing through the pedals disappeared only issue now is a vibration through the seat and frame.

This is a classic sign that the tyres are out of balance so I got my 2 front wheels rebalanced twice. I then swapped them back to the front, same problem, only worse now.

Now the dealer stated at the time that 2no. of my wheels (19") were buckled... I went mental at this point because I haven't hit anything, so if they are buckled then I was sold the car with damaged wheels. I kicked off at the time but no joy.

Although since then I have had VW uk phone me up regarding a recent survey following my service and warranty work getting done, they are going to speak to the dealer to see if they will replace the wheels, fingers crossed.

I've had the wheels off and can't even tell what wheels are buckled / dented?? So it must be slight.

I am now thinking about getting a road force balance done on all 4wheels to see if this sorts the issue. If it doesn't then I'm going to get the wheels repaired then sell them and fit some 18" instead.

What's your thoughts?

Further update....

I got the 4wheels balanced on a road force balancer, but still have the buzzing cyclic vibration through the pedals.

As mentioned before this has only been noticeable since the subframe was adjusted to sort the camber on the front wheels.

Also having issues with clutch release, could these items be related?

Any thoughts, help needed.

Okay another update,... (if anyone is interested...lack of response is a bit disappointing).

I have taken the plunge and got my 2No. new 19" Lugano's fitted yesterday, although the problem still persists.

So I have booked it back into the dealers (yet again) and I am going to go for a test drive with the senior mechanic and then wait there while they get it back up on the ramp to check it out.

As mentioned before,"the buzzing cyclic vibration through the pedals, mostly accelerator.

This has only been noticeable since the subframe was adjusted to sort the camber on the front wheels."

Can anyone please offer some suggestions as to what this could be, as I have now spent £1000 and the issue is still there, many thanks.

Well went for a test drive with the mechanic this morning, good news is he could also feel the symptoms, as described above, bad news is they couldn't figure out if it was the o/s/f or n/s/f wheel bearing.

So it's booked back in on Thursday to replace one or both.

And to answer the question, yes the wheel bearings are covered under the 3year manufacturers warranty.

So hopefully on Thursday it will be fixed, I'll keep you posted.

I get this stupid vibration through my pedals too.
Had it for months and months and never figured it out. Just put up with it.

I've been told the bolts on the subframe can stretch and ause it to vibrate so these can be replaced with better bolts.

I hope you can find a solution. VW won't change anything on my car under warranty since I changed the suspension and they refused to do anything on it.

So I get the o/s/f wheel bearing replaced which has stopped the main cyclic buzzing vibration, although I told VW and the dealers that I wanted to give the car a good drive then report back.

I did a 120mile round trip today on the motorway and unfortunately there is still a slight buzzing/vibration through the pedals.

I'm convinced that this is definatly related to the subframe being dropped, especially since reading up on the issues with the subframe bolts, which are called stretch bolts.

The problem seams to be that once these are loosened they will not hold the correct torque for long, solution seams to be to fit new style bolts and shims.

So I'm going to ask them to fit new subframe bolts with shims, new n/s/f wheel bearing and get the alignment checked.

I will call the dealers tomorrow to see if they are willing to do this, I did find this VW technical bulletin about these bolts and other aftermarket kits, ie. ecstuning.

Funny you say that, I've just bought they subframe spacers with updated bolts lol.
Gonna fit them when I get a chance and I'll let you know if it makes a difference.

As the dealership are now saying they won't change the bolts or fit the spacers because the technical bulletin relates to a different model (passat).

My view is that they should have replaced the bolts as a matter of course, based on the findings on the articles and that the symptoms were only present after the subframe was moved.

So I would be very interested to hear how you get on.

Update...

After continued pressure from VW, the dealers have agreed to replace the stretch bolts that they adjusted when moving the subframe when carrying out the alignment.

Although since the new wheel bearing has been fitted, 2months ago, the symptoms are starting to get more pronounced. Feels like its going the same way as the last one (same wheel).

I'm now starting to think that something is damaged at that corner.. Already replaced both front wheels and new front tyres... At much expense.

What would cause a new OEM wheel bearing to fail again after such a short time??

I did hit a pothole on the motorway before this whole thing started but no symptoms until the subframe adjusted.

Could the force of the impact have damaged the bearing /hub carrier or even the driveshaft..???

Need help in this guys as the car goes in to ghe dealers yet again tomorrow.
