RNS510 UPDATING

Post by robinalex »

I have read much on here but am still confused. I have a March 09 Roc, RNS510, Red MFD and V4 Vw Navigation Disc. I cannot find out what version the RNS is by pressing the setup button.

I really need to update to be able to enter 7 digit postcodes but am not sure whether I need to update disc or firmware. I suspect it is firmware but how do I do this without 'bricking' the unit if I don't know what firmware it is now?

A nice easy walk through of how I can update would be most appreciated if someone can point me in the right direction. Reluctant to take it to the Stealers to do it.

You need a new map disc (v.9) to get full postcode coverage. Live with the current firmware if you can as the update process can go wrong as you allude to!

Indeed, I still have v4 maps but don't have the confidence to update the firmware (and IT is my job). Fear of it going wrong is too much. Maps are also very expensive.

Dont think you can download them, have to be bought on DVD. New price is at least £160 from VW last time I checked.

You can download from a torrent site if you know what you are doing I think. It is just a case of finding a bug free link. If I cant find V9 I am happy to try V7 to get the seven digit postcodes. There must be someone on here that has done the same.

Reminds me, I did contact this company last year about possible DVD, and they replied to my questions very quickly on email. http://www.autoteileltd.com/v9-vw-seat- ... d-cameras/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Their DVD disks seem to be half the price of VW, but they may not be the very latest, which would suit me anyway! Why pay a premium for the absolute latest.

Updating to a newer version of the maps will give you newer maps but not necessarily 7 digit postcode entry. You need newer firmware AND newer map data to get the full postcode entry.

You should be able to find a download torrent feed for the map online, burn your own DVD from the download and install it yourself all for the cost of a blank DVD.

There is no risk of bricking it by just doing the maps.

I have maps V7 and old firmware so still no full postcode entry as I'm also afraid to do the firmware myself. At the last service I asked VW to do it but they knew even less about it than I did. They told me the map I had installed was the latest version, this is despite me specifically asking them to update the firmware, not the maps. I’ll try again next service at a different dealer.

If you already have maps 7 Paralla I think you just need to update firmware to 1300 from the research that I have done.
