Strange! Mine is a RCD510 according to the paper from VW but i got navi in it and it works fine.Mark V wrote:No - the RCD is a non navigation unit and cannot be upgraded to perform as such.
A great source for the RNS510 is ebay - I bought mine from a UK seller with original radio code card in December for just over £400.
RCD510 definitely does not hav navigation and cannot be updated to incorporate navigation.eMiL-VR6 wrote:Strange! Mine is a RCD510 according to the paper from VW but i got navi in it and it works fine.Mark V wrote:No - the RCD is a non navigation unit and cannot be upgraded to perform as such.

RNS310 and RNS510 are the OEM units with navigation.
I will check that!Cuprabob wrote:The only way i can think of to tell if it's been changed is to check the build sticker to see what HU it left the factory with.
RCD510 also has an internal 6 CD changer whereas the navigation units don't.
If you have navigation you don't have an RCD510
OEM units are shown on this webpage, you might be able to identify what you have.

Yes - if your certain you have an RNS510 (four buttons down each side) you can tell if its a replacement unit (rather than factory installed) by looking carefully at the sharks fin roof aerial. The thin ones are dummies fitted to cars without sat-nav, the wider ones are actually functioning sat-nav antennas fitted at the factory. Its a subtle difference but a quick search on this forum will display pictures of the two different designs.eMiL-VR6 wrote: Is there someway i could check if the HU is replaced?
