Can't you not just upgrade your RCD510 to a RNS510 with software?
I got a RCD510 but i guess its updated because i got navi

Re: RCD 510 to a RNS 510
No - the RCD is a non navigation unit and cannot be upgraded to perform as such.
A great source for the RNS510 is ebay - I bought mine from a UK seller with original radio code card in December for just over £400.

RCD510 definitely does not hav navigation and cannot be updated to incorporate navigation.eMiL-VR6 wrote:Strange! Mine is a RCD510 according to the paper from VW but i got navi in it and it works fine.Mark V wrote:No - the RCD is a non navigation unit and cannot be upgraded to perform as such.

RNS310 and RNS510 are the OEM units with navigation.

Re: RCD 510 to a RNS 510
The only way i can think of to tell if it's been changed is to check the build sticker to see what HU it left the factory with.
RCD510 also has an internal 6 CD changer whereas the navigation units don't.
If you have navigation you don't have an RCD510
OEM units are shown on this webpage, you might be able to identify what you have.

I dont have the CD changer either but still strange my papers from VW factory only says 2 extra options,
PR number:
4KF Black tainted windows
RHZ Radio RCD510
and i guess RNS510 isn't a standard option on the R?
Re: RCD 510 to a RNS 510
RNS 510 is still a cost option available all models, RNS315 is now the standard but this was only in the last twelve months and prior to that RCD510 was the standard h/u..
Although at first glance they look the same its actually very easy to tell them apart as the nav unit (RNS510) has four buttons down each side and the RCD has only three!! Simple!!

Re: RCD 510 to a RNS 510
Yes - if your certain you have an RNS510 (four buttons down each side) you can tell if its a replacement unit (rather than factory installed) by looking carefully at the sharks fin roof aerial. The thin ones are dummies fitted to cars without sat-nav, the wider ones are actually functioning sat-nav antennas fitted at the factory. Its a subtle difference but a quick search on this forum will display pictures of the two different designs.eMiL-VR6 wrote: Is there someway i could check if the HU is replaced?
Re: RCD 510 to a RNS 510
Is it worth the upgrade if you wont use the gps feature? Thank you!
Re: RCD 510 to a RNS 510
Err no! The whole point is that its a sat-nav unit....
Re: RCD 510 to a RNS 510

You are not going to get lost in Malta are you? Spain should have maps and I'd be suprised if Malta isnt included on the maps for Spain.jkgatt wrote:Malta, Europe!
