JAM17's Black TDI 140 Rocky Build (updated pics 24/03)

Post by Jam17 »

Hi all, new to the forum as I just bought my first Scirocco. Never thought I'd buy one really, not that I didn't like them, just I never imagined myself in one!

To cut a long story short, my history of cars since the age of 17 has been, Ford ka 1.3 (nippy!), VW Polo 1.2 (also nippy!), Honda Civic Type R EP3 (a rocket in a go kart), Honda Civic Type R FN2 (a spaceship), VW Mk6 golf 1.6 TDI, and now my beautiful Scirocco TDI 140 in black.

I Was reading the threads on here and scirocconet before I got the car, but used this one more as it seemed to update more often, and had more content. It was pretty much Kenti's car that inspired me to get one, but didn't have the option of getting a GT model, and needed a dirty diesel after wasting (or enjoying) far too much money in the Type R's.

Anyway onto the build, I don't plan to do much really, only cosmetic as I can't really afford to be going down the performance route just yet.

Chrome exhaust tips

Got these from an eBay seller who I think is an actual Skoda dealership (from the packaging). Makes a huge difference to the cars appearance in my opinion! Only £26 from http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130740967913? ... 1497.l2649

MTECH H7 dipped headlights

Love the look of these, make a huge difference over the original yellowish bulbs. Easy to fit too. £12 from Hids-direct.

T10 8xSMD sidelights

An absolute pain in the ar$e to get the foglight covers off, using more force than you think, and alot of anger helps! Then pulling off the whole light unit (including the rubber backing) was tough. £6 from eBay can't complain, but will still keep an eye out for a proper DRL unit like the R has.

18 bulb SMD number plate lights

These are so bright, they light up the floor below the plates! Nice effect. Easy to install and come with a resistor so no bulb error. £19 from a seller on eBay.

To do:

-I have the OEM metal foot pedals to fit so they'll be on soon.
Image

-I think I'll tint the windows, maybe a DIY job if I'm feeling confident.

-I definitely want to change the alloys to the RS6 ones (as seen on Derboy's) or TTRS ones, 18". They would probably be replica ones though as I can't afford the real deal.

I also want to do a few things with vagcom but need to find someone in my area that has it.

Where did you get the foot pedals from?

Got them from an eBay seller for £60 shipped. Had to order a torx screwdriver as I thought the car came with one in with the spare wheel set. Waiting for this before I can attempt to fit them!

Got round to fitting the pedals yesterday. I'm by no means good with fitting stuff but this was a relatively easy job, took about 15 mins. Don't need to buy the removal tool everyone seems to use, just require 2 flat head screwdrivers. Also don't need a wrench or even the torx screwdriver, if you've ever bought anything from ikea you can use the Alan key from that.

Tools I used
- wd40 for the clutch
- plyers for the clutch
- ikea tool to loosen the screw from accelerator
- torx screwdriver to take the screw off
- 2 screwdrivers to remove the accelerator

Using the two screwdrivers. For the left one, use a larger screwdriver, slot in, and twist to release the catch. For the right on, just push it in to release.

Love these, provide so much more grip than before. I usually wear vans, and they used to slip off the clutch sometimes. They look miles better too.
