Scirocco Central

Having changed pads discs on old cars for many years i should be able to do this however on the scirocco is there anything to watch out for . It is a 2009 2L TSI .
IS there a news sheet available on this work.

Only thing is that you need a piston wind back tool for the rears

Sorry to bring up an old thread but thought it might be better than starting a new one...

I too am looking at changing discs & pads all round and wouldn't mind attempting the work myself, however I don't have any previous mechanical experience/knowledge when it comes to this sort of thing...is this something an amateur could realistically attempt?

I've seen a few videos on youtube showing the procedure for a mkVI Golf GTI and it doesn't look too complicated, am I right in assuming the Scirocco parts would be changed in pretty much the same way?

Thoughts/hints/tips/guides would be very much appreciated

Yes golf has the same brakes. Buy a decent brand for both disks and pads, I bought Pagid pads from Eurocarparts (online sale still on), and Brembo disks from GSF car parts (mates rates). Brakes work really well now

Your after 312mm disks (same as 2.0 TSI) for your TDI 170

I have been reading lots about the various discs and pad combinations, and had pretty much decided on the Brembo discs as well. Pads wise I had been leaning towards Mintex M1144 after hearing so many good things about them, although they do seem a little on the expensive side for general (ok...maybe 'spirited' ) road use.

The main concern for me is the actual fitting of the discs/pads. I have most of the tools required (apart from something to wind the piston back) and I am keen to give it a go but in the back of my mind I'm thinking if I cock something up it could be pretty dangerous .

Wouldn't use Mintex M1144 as a road pad they're a little wooden when cold and do tend to squeal when not used fully or if not bedded.
Nice budget trackday pad to be thrown away after a couple of days however.

It will be obvious if you have done something wrong, you will either have no problem or you won't be able to do it at all so I'd have a go.

I did my first ever pad/disc change on my old 330Ci and it was very easy, just takes some time having to jack up each corner one at a time.

What are your thoughts on Brembo/Mintex/EBC 'standard' (i.e. not fast road/track spec) replacement discs and pads vs the oem Pagid ones?...Would I see any benefits in performance or less dusting?

Standard pads should all conform to ECE- R-90 which would put them in performance terms within 15% of the original reference pad. Allowing for manufacturing tolerances this means that stopping performance shouldn't be noticeablely different.

Brembo don't make pads (generally) so they'll be a rebrand of something could be European could be Asian / Chinese, Mintex and Pagid are both part of TMD so may well be the same standard compound. Unless the distributor has done a rebranding deal with TMD then probably Asian/Chinese.

Disc wise the name on the box probably isn't who made them for "standard" components through the motor factors.

Cheers mate, I have been reading about Brembo Maxx Discs which have caught my eye, they have groves on the disc to supposedly increase stopping performance, though they are quite expensive...Does anybody have experience with them?

However if most of the 'standard' setups are going to perform pretty much the same, I'll probably just look at what discs & pads work out the most cost effective.

I have had max discs on an audi. Main benefit was they were coated so no rust. They looked good too.

Got to admitt a part of me did think 'oooOOO, they will look good!' ...did you notice any difference in performance vs the oem Audi discs?

Not really. But dont drive quick enough to notice really. I just bought them because of the coating and the look of them.

Did you get the Brembo Maxx in the end? I ordered some from Amazon, still waiting to see if they fulfil the order.

Also, does anyone know the brand difference between the Brembo, AP, and Breco options that the catalogue displays online?

I thought it's not worth me starting a new topic as mine would look the same.
I've got a 2.0 TDI DSG from 2009 and want to change my front disks and brake pads. I've previously done this on a Citroen C4 so should be able to change it.
My worry is I won't order the right parts. Where could I find the OEM number for these? what dimensions are they exactly? I am thinking to order from Brembo, however I am not sure what to go for making sure I am going for a slight upgrade compared to the existing OEM ones.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi guys i own a 09 plate scirocco 2.0 GTTDI (140) im due a set of pads and disks for the rear what kind of discs would i need ventilated or non ventilated ? and is there any requirement to have it plugged in afterwards and have faults cleared etc ? or can you DIY ? Thanks.

I am looking at changing the disc/pads on the front and just the pads on the back of my 11 plate rocco 2.0 TDI 170bhp.

I have done brake changes before on smaller cars, polo/saxo, and I have the help of a fella from work who used to be a mechanic. So I am confident we can complete the work.

My issue is what brakes/pads to buy. Anyone got any recommendations? I don't use my car for anything other than commuting and leisure so do not need racing spec brakes or anything silly. I just drive my car fairly normally, like to put my foot down from time to time on my way home after a night shift and the roads are clear enough to do so. But nothing silly!

Wondered if anyone had any recommendations for combinations of brakes and pads? And the best places to purchase these? I am guessing this is going to be GSF or ECP. What sort of price should I be paying for a standard-ish brake pad / disc?
