Hi Guys,

I have just bought a scirocco yesterday and i am having problems with connecting my iPod. I know there's probably hundreds of posts about this but i still cant find the right answer. So i have a usb connection in the arm rest which i have learned that is not used for the ipod but for a memory stick etc. I the glove box there is an ipod connection lead along with a usb and a 3.5 jack all in the same lead, i assume i can just use which ever connection i choose. But when i plug the lead into my ipod the only thing that comes up on the screen is AUX and i cant select any music or adjust the volume or even play anything for that matter! if i used the usb in the glove box to connect to my ipod then the same happens on the screen but if i select a track to play on the ipod it plays but i cant adjust the volume. Am i doing something wrong?? i had this type of connection on my old car and i just plugged it in and it was fine but not on this car!?
Like i say i have only just bought it so i am trying to figure it all out.

Can anyone help?

Cheers

could it be the same issue & unit that this chap had??? (clicky)

otherwise you say you have the usb connection in the armrest, purchase the mdi ipod cable? http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/roccop ... Connection" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Ok so its sounds like i need a different cable for the media input thats in the armrest as currently its just a usb connection. does that sound about right?

Yes - cable type (armrest) should be the one as per the link provided by trix above. I plug my iPod into there and it plays fine.

That sounds like a very strange lead. The correct ipod lead looks like the USB one you have in the armrest - ie: a short lead with an ipod plug on one end and the docking plug for the armrest socket on the other. They actually (should) come with the car or you can buy one on ebay for a fiver. Here is one:

From the description, the lead in the glovebox sounds like a Dension cable

Cheers for that guys! it confused me having an ipod dock in the glove box, that just must have been used as a AUX in by the previous owners. I have now bought the correct lead on ebay. Thanks for your help!

I bought the right lead and just arrived today and it works.....BUT the sound quality is really poor! i tried another 2 ipods/iphones to make sure there wasnt a problem with my device. Anyone heard anything about this before or have a solution? Maybe its the lead? but it is a brand new genuine part.

Cheers

Do a search, as someone recently had a similar issue. The solution IIRC was to adjust the input level setting on the head unit.

I thought the input level setting was only for the 'AUX' input?

OP - does the USB lead work?

There is an input level option for the iPod too. I have to set mine to low to get the best sound quality, medium or high and the sound quality is very poor.

Cheers guys have sorted it now, the input level on the head unit was set to max so just turned it down and it worked fine.
