4th Year Service - 2.0 ltr TSi

Hi all, my 4th year service is due on my 2.0tsi Roc in a few weeks.
I'm thinking of taking it to the stealers for the stamp in the book.
Having read the handbook it appears to be an oil change and replacement pollen filter.
If so, how much can i expect to pay, and is that all this service should consist of?
Chappy I rang at the stealers said it needs a full service which includes spark plugs, air filter etc, however the handbook says these things are not due to be replaced yet.
I believe its him not having a clue.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I believe it will only need new plugs/filter if the mileage is more than 60,000km (37,300 miles), otherwise it will be pretty much your standard oil change/filter.
Mine is aso coming up for 4 year service (and MOT of course). I paid £370 last year for a 2 year package. My guess is that it will be approx £200, but obviously more if plugs/filter are required.

I also paid for the 2 year package (with 2 "free" MOTs) and it clearly states spark plugs and air filter are replaced in the 4th service as part of the deal and I will make sure they are done even though my mileage is much lower than the recommended 40k miles. Cos I paid for it!

OOHVB it's up to you what you have done at the stealers

Thanks guys. As my car has only done 32000 miles, and as the handbook says the plugs and air filter don't need replacing, i may ring around and see how much they will change the oil and pollen filter for.

This is interesting, I too am well under the 40k miles threshold, but on page 9 on the "Additionally every 4 years" section it says:
Spark plugs replaced - only vehicles with less than 60,000km/40,000 miles in 4 years - except 2.0 TSI (and a few other engine variants).
Conversely it also says, The spark plugs are changed on vehicles driven more than 60,000km/40000 miles in 4 years. Exceptions again being the 2.0 TSI.
It seems that plugs are only changed at 6 years or 60,000 miles according to the service schedule book.

Exactly how I read it too Skippy. So it appears for the 4 year service on the 2.0tsi with less than 40k miles is just the pollen filter and oil change.
Shouldn't hurt the pocket too much (I hope).

Yes indeed, so it seems for sure that spark plugs are only due at 60k or 6 years (for 2.0 TSI). I would estimate cost of service anywhere between £150 - £230, then there is the MOT cost as well :-(

Spark plugs for the 2.0TSi are 6 year or 90,000Km (56,250 miles) or 60,000 miles service point. Lots of short trips and cold starts would bring that down closer to 40kish miles which is classed as "Severe operating conditions".
Air Filter for the 2.0TSi is 6 year or 90,000Km (56,250 miles) or 60,000 miles service point as said.
DSG Oil & Filter ??? Every 60,000Km (40,000 miles). May just be a little too early given your 5th will be 40k miles

Thanks guys. Well, with regards to cost, last year for the third service, I got oil change and brake fluid change for £150 after negotiating. I cant imagine swapping brake fluid change for a pollen filter is likely to cost me more, if anything i'd expect to pay slightly less. Would you concur?
And again, thank you RW1 for your encyclopaedic knowledge, you are indeed right, i feel DSG oil/filter change will be done next year, would it matter if im 1000miles over the 40k?

No problem.
1k miles over....

Here is how VW Extended Warranty covering DSG treats it if you have it.
2.6.1 Servicing requirements for your Volkswagen
The continued validity of your insurance is dependent upon you having the insured
vehicle serviced any Volkswagen Authorised Retailer or Repairer in accordance with the
manufacturer’s specifications.
We will allow a maximum of 1,000 miles or one calendar month (whichever occurs first)
in excess of the recommended service intervals.
So worth checking if you have an alternative warranty policy cover for post initial 3 year period.

Skippy, I've booked it in for £135 after negotiating.
RW1, I'm going to wait until the 5th year service for dsg oil change, unless i hit 40k miles before then, and then i guess i can always get it done seperately.

Wow - £135, that is an excellent quote, makes me think that the 2 year servicing deal (which includes 2 MOT's) wasn't as good a deal as I thought. I paid £379 for 2 years servicing.

The VW servicing deals are not great value for money - BMW give you 5 years for that money. As a freebie with a VWFS finance plan they are worth having though!

well I payed £150 last year which was lube service with brake fluid change plus £30 quid for MOT at local garage. This year £135 plus £30 for MOT equates to a total £345. So to be fair what you have is not bad value for money, especially if you had more extensive servicing due to mileage or life of consumables. On the 2 year servicing plan, if for example the plugs need replacing, will they do that on the plan with no extra cost? The reason I ask is because i may take it up seeing as plugs will need replacing in the next 2 years.

I've only done 21,000 in my 59 plate. Was built... well, registered in Sep 09. I brought it in November '10 with 6,400 on the clock. 4th service up and coming in November this year. I too at the last service renewed and I'm paying per month as it cost nothing more to do that, so rather than in one go, DD it. Will be interesting to see if the plugs are changed. Is it a definite "must" by VW as this is through Listers.

Plugs only changed at 60k or 6 years Ryy on the 2.0 TSI.
