New Roc owner requiring help!

Hey guys,

I picked up my second hand candy white 09 2.0 Tdi (140) DSG GT today and I love it! One slight problem I have noticed though is that my Roc won't 'find' my iPhone 4S via bluetooth and the phone also won't 'find' the Roc. Is this simply because the phone is newer than the car or is there another reason ? I am yet to purchase an MDI cable to play media from the iPhone - does the phone have to be plugged in via MDI in order to pair or something? Sorry if this has been covered before I'm just excited to get it up and running. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

As your car is an 09 the bluetooth module, if fitted, will only work with phones that support rSAP protocol, which the iPhone doesn't. Bluetooth was an option on your car so may not even be fitted. It only became standard around Aug 2011.

You can either retrofit a newer bluetooth module that supports HFP protocol or connect you iPhone directly using the MDI cable in the armrest.

Thanks for the advice.. I took it to my local VW dealer today and purchased an MDI cable to play media via iPod and iPhone etc. I asked the tech guys at VW about the Bluetooth connectivity issue and was basically told that if I wanted to update the head unit I would require a 'UMTS kit' which tricks the head unit into pairing with an iPhone. This all sounded great until he told me the price - around £340 (without fitting)!! I think I'll do some research regarding cheaper alternatives before spending a substantial amount of my hard earned just to keep it VW approved. Any further advice or suggestions welcome
