Hello,
I've been reading the posts about folk who have gone for the bluefin, which I'm too considering. I wondered what trace there would be if you took the car in for warranty work & VW hooked your car up. Would the upgrdae show, even if you re-installed the orginal software?
Also what have folk done about insurance & warranty matters if they have installed bluefin??

lee, i would suggest you give the guys that make it a call, they can tell you how the technology works in terms of reinstalling the cars original map

some dealers are mod friendly, one by me is a bluefin agent

what happes if you have bluefin installed and you wrap your car? it wont start and you are injured and cant remove it? bye bye £££££££££ lol

I like your way of thinking, does this mean I should only fill up fuel £10 at a time, therefore if the car is written off I'd only lose £10 rather than a full tank of petrol lmao

FYI The device isn't attached to the car it's only used to flash the ECU Mine is back in its box

not really as running out of petrol is not against the law (yet) but driving without insurance is lol

You've lost me completely, you would inform the insurance company of any remaps.

I have, I'm with the Admiral, when you call them they have "engine chip" under the modifications category or something, they ask you the % increase of your car, in my case if the car's performance went up by 26% then I would not be covered, but I was in the 11-25% increase category anyway - my premium went up by 20% - the way I see it, when you minus the discount I got on the device to being with £45, the difference I have paid is £87 - a very small price to pay to insure my £26k vehicle because had I not the car would have been illegally on the road right?

I'm confident in my driving but I can't predict the stupidity of other drivers - should I get involved in an accident that’s not my fault and the insurers think I am to blame, they'll investigate my car further then I'll lose everything as well getting everything else that’s associated with driving without insurance - the way I see it a insurance company will find the smallest of things in order not to pay even if its not your fault.

pat15312 you should talk with your insurers as it might only be a case of £60 all in with the 1.4 model

Before choosing Superchips I was on the verge of getting a custom remap for £495 - so the way I see it, I have got a bargain of a deal, superb performance increase and I'm still insured - how many other people can say that?

Driving without insurance is pretty serious stuff.

Imagine the worst case where someone died or was injured and it came out that your car is chipped but not insured for it. They'd take you to the cleaners and you'd have no defense.

Good news (for me anyway) I had my audi remapped (looking at getting a scirocco but won't unless I can get the diesel tuned, it's not the same otherwise!) and my insurance went down (look on the tuning forums and others say the same thing). I really like Admiral, they seemed better than other companies, but they wouldn't insure me after the ecu map... I ended up with Brentacre - there are many other tuner-insurance companies out there like Adrian Flux (sp?) and ones like that.

It's not what my insurance people told me, but what you say makes sense.

I think we both have good points because I think people forget about the insurance side pretty quickly...

I would be very suprised that after having an accident your insurance company would send someone around to check the map you had in your ecu!!

If you had a very bad accident the ECU from your car would be sent away for expert analysis by the Police ... it is fairly standard if you have a biggy ! May not be top of your worries if you have had a really serious accident but isn't going to be good when they find out.

An insurance company *could* send you ECU away I bet to the same experts - whether they would bother or not is another matter .... the thing is, if they suspected you had remapped then they may to avoid paying you the £25K for a replacement car if you hadn't declared the remap.

Fatal accidents is what I meant - perhaps I wasn't explicit enough .... It's what I do .... if you know what I mean .... and where I work it will get sent away if they have even the smallest thought it will help them find out more ......

I don't think they would bother for anything less .... though I do think an insurance company would get it analysed to save themselves a payout !

On a different note do you now have a Scirocco ... the CTR gone ? I recognise your login from a few years back on the CTR forums

I do quite fancy this I must admit. I guess you can then re-load the original settings before you take it for service??

I see the BHP and torque increases but anyone who has had it fitted, how different does it feel???

Any ideas on the improvement in the 0-62 time??

had mine car done back in february and its now covered 4,000 miles with the remap, lots of options for remapping but it suited me, you really notice a difference after 3,000 rpm and the extra torque on the motorways, dead easy to reinstate the standard map takes about 5 minutes, has been the most popular choice given Revo have not released theirs
