really like this subtle touch of the red horizontal trim taken from the new GTI shown in the pic below. how is this done? is this just a paint job that could be done in a body shop or are these body parts that are purchased and sprayed red?

Could never work out whether that photo is Photoshop'd.
I painted mine as I have on other Kamie bonnet lip spoilers with Polycarbonate paint.

Mask off the area not to be painted.
Rough the grille area to be painted with very fine grade abrasive paper.
Because the grille black, the first fine two coats should white.
Apply a further two coats

The two white coats brighten the top final colour coats. If the colour coats are used directly onto the grille (which they can), the finished colour is darkened.

The paint is very bright at first but within a couple of days settles down. This is the same grille 2.5 years later still looking like new and not a blemish on it.

Available at most good model shops but here's the range of Tamiya Polycarbonate paints I used
http://www.wonderlandmodels.com/radio-c ... te-paints/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Used PS1 - White as the base followed by PS3 - Light Blue.

Be aware its heavy paint to spray, so you have to sweep across steadily in one go. Its much heavier than car paint and cannot be oversprayed to repair missed patches without spraying the whole area again. Suggest you practise on a piece of plastic to understand how the paint behaves.

But it is flexible and resists stone chips. The finish is slighly stippled, not a gloss smooth finish. Although it does have a shine to it and gradually settles to a smoother finish than when initially sprayed. See below....

thanks RW1. to be honest i would not attempt to do his job myself and would get it done b a fella i know who is brilliant at this body work. yours looks pretty cool in the sky blue but i'm wondering why you only done one stripe across the top of the piece and not a second stripe underneath on the other side? :shrug: think i would like to give mine 2 red stripes instead like the GTI.

still looks great thou imo.
