Service advice please

Post by Makkyd81 »

Hey. So I got my 60 plate Roc March this year from a well known car dealership. Now the car had a service before I picked up the car which has been stamped in my book.
Now, sorry if I'm being stupid here, the car is now 2 years old does it need to go through its 2nd year service or do I wait until I've had it year??

Hope I've made this clear enough. Again, sorry for the stupid question.......new at this!!

The best bet is 1 year from the last service (which should be shown on or next to the stamp in the book).

If it was me I'd go for 2 years from the registration date, simply because next year that will then tie up with the MOT date and you only have to arrange one trip to the garage for both instead of one for each.

Also depends on mileage and which service regime the car is on.

So do you think the best thing to do would be ring the garage and ask for there advice? I've just got that feeling if I ring them they will just try and scam me out of money and say get the car in for a service.

Just do what your happy with. If it was serviced when you got it, then just get it serviced when you've had it 12 months.

My problem with Cuprabob's advice comes from resale value and having a full service history.

If you don't have evidence of a service when you bought it, then doing anything apart from 1 year since last service -could- reduce resale value. And if they do say they serviced it, ask them to stamp the book. If they refuse or say it was a "light and levels" service, then you're back to the same problem, when you resell it won't be worth as much because it wasn't properly serviced.

While it may not matter for a £3000 shed, it might matter for a £15,000 pukka motor.

Just my opinion mind.

It says in his original post that the book has been stamped as evidence of the service taking place otherwise I would totally agree with you.

Everyone has a difefrent opinion regarding servicing therefore I made the comment, "do what makes you happy".

Cubrabob, you're right, I'd read that as "at some point before I bought it, perhaps months, it was stamped", as opposed to "a few days before I picked it up." Hence my working from stamped date.

My apologies.

Yeah guys it was stamped as having an oil change and a service interval display the day before I picked her up. Hence why i'm thinking should I just wait til March next year which will be 1 full year since I got her or do I do the 2 years since she was first registered. To be fair I've only done about 4000miles so it's not like I've maxed her out.

Wait 12 months / 10k miles from ur last service, which ever is sooner.

So for you save ur pennies and wait till March next year for next service

I've had my 3rd service already because I've done 30k miles in 2.5 years. :)

Not really, I've done 30k miles in that time. This will be the last "free" service on the service plan.

Cheers for the advice guys. Currently my total mileage is just over 8000. So when I hit 10000 (if it's before march) I should take it in even though it went through a service 6 months ago??
