New Scirocco Discount and Haggling

Hi, I'm looking potentially to buy a Scirocco GT DSG. Not quite made up my mind on a 2.0 DSG or wait for the 1.4 160 DSG to come out. Any advice would be appreciated :)
I'm doing around 8k miles per year most of the time around town.

But more importantly, does anyone what level of discount I should be expecting? - In purchases in the last couple of years, I've managed to get 15% off the new Fiesta, and 10-15% off 1 and 3 series BMWs. And most recently got 10% off the new Golf Mk6 for the folks.
However, looking at broker prices etc, it seems the Scirocco is only going at around 6% discount
What's the best people on here have managed to achieve on a new Scirocco? - I'd to know what others have managed, so I know what I should be able to realistically achieve before I start my haggling session with the dealer this weekend!

Thanks

I managed to get 9.2% off of my new TDI I ordered last week. Best thing to do is put two or three dealers against each other.

Mate,
I went direct to VW to discuss a PCP. My budget per month was 350 for a 2 yr deal (10k per annum).
the woman told me i would need to pay 3500 deposit and 360 per month to get a scirocco in black, manual and nothing else. So i walked away.
A friend told me to go on broker 4 cars, get a quote and take it back to VW (as its better to deal with a dealer, better contact with a person face to face)
anyway, broker for cars quoted me £2000 deposit and £350 per month for a black gt scirocco with the DSG box. took it to VW who matched the price and threw in full tank and mats. You can do the same and push them even more. I did my deal before VW price hike so dont know what kinda price you will get. I got the car fot 20,800 OTR.

Rising Blue 2.0Tsi DSG with cruise, folding mirrors, tyre pressure monitors and premium mats for £20,734 pre price increase - around 9% discount from local VW dealer.

Thanks guys. I'll be fighting for at least 10% off list price then. May come back asking for recommendation of a good discounting dealer if it doesn't work out :)

I got 5%, that was at beginning of Jan, so maybe there is some scope for a little more.

Got 4% off mine in October, it was on it's way though (demo stock), just mentioned I had spoken to some brokers.would have thought you could get at least 6% and a tank of fuel / mats free.

Thanks for all the help guys.
I had my test drive and placed the order this morning!! :vibes:
They said they weren't going to give the hard sell, but I gave the hard buy :) In exchange for getting a car for them by the end of the month I compromised my spec a bit, losing out on Bluetooth, Smokers pack and Flat tyre indicator.
Anyway, I now have a Pewter Grey 2.0TSI DSG on order, with black leather, DVD, cruise control, Rear parking sensors and carpet mats!

The deal? Well..
I managed to haggle around 8.5% discount off list price, and got given £350 extra for my part-ex than I was expecting to get.
So all in all pretty happy chappy. Now time to rag the hell out of my 320i and use up that full tank before it gets traded in next week :D

Sounds like you got a good deal there. Your wait is not a long one though, she'll soon be on your drive.

They phoned up this morning. It seems that the car they have allocated in fact also has a sunroof as an optional extra. They tried to make me cough up an extra £640 or else it would be a factory order with 16-20 week lead time (ie they wouldn't get me a car before end of this month).
I told them I wasn't in a hurry and didn't particulary want to pay extra for the sunroof and was happy holding onto my existing car until then. Anyway, they came back again saying they could offer me the sunroof at £440, so I took them up on it. Secretly, I did sort of want the sunroof anyway (but was put off the by huge delays mentioned on the other threads), but wasn't letting them know that :D

i did similar at the weekend, on a 1.4 tsi in rising blue with leather (which i wanted) and nav (which is not worth 100 quid to me let alone 1200) however after a bit of haggling i effectively got the nav for nothing.also got a bit more off. I was happy with the deal really as i didnt expect to get very much off at all given that the car i wanted seems to be in short supply and demand is high.

I'm starting to be suspicious just how high this 'demand' actually is. The dealer said they couldn't get models with a sunroof, since they were in such high demand, and yet the only car they could get me my spec was with a sunroof! I was told originally they weren't big discounts to be had since there was huge demand, and yet they caved in as soon as I bounced some figures around...
Then another dealer I looked at a month ago who said they were shifting the Scirocco quicker than they could get them, yet they had one in their showroom and 3 for sale out on their forecourt!
Also, I've yet to actually see any on the road!
Nevertheless, works out well for keen buyers!

I do not believe salesmen one bit. I only belive there was one car in stock as i watched him go through the computer and thats what it was saying. I also saw the same car on its own on 2 different dealers screens.

On walking in the dealers one older salesman said "were all busy all ten of us, you will have to have a coffee and wait your turn. we have sold more cars this month than ever etc" I said "its a recession though isnt it?" he replied " we have never been so busy" (i immediately thought he was talking crap)

My dad after about 10 minutes asked the receptionist how long it would be to see a salesman, she replied "I will get you one" then straight away a different salesman comes over.

I have a bit crack with him and tell him i want the best deal straight away, i dont do the usual sales rubbish etc etc he then says "Look I need to sell another 10 cars this month, we are under target so we might do a deal" We have a bit crack , i tell him to forget about gap insurance, paint protection, fianance etc etc as i am not interested. He gets to the point and I buy from him there and then for £350 less than the dealer 15 miles away quoted an hour earlier. To be honest i bought from him because as i aksed he was honest and too the point with no sales patter. Thats what i want when i buy a car!

So what about the older bloke who told me the porkies? I recon he had a few reasons for doing so.
1) to make me wait til he was free so he had the chance of a comission.
2) to make me think they werent desperate to sell cars so that i wouldnt haggle as hard
3) to extract as much of my hard earned from me as possible.

In the end what did his lies achieve?? I bought a car for over 20k within 10 mins of going in the dealers from someone else and he lost out on a sale and some comission.

oh and as for the young salesman i spoke to in the first dealer i visited (newcastle), His deal got beated by £350 without any problem. so buy telling me your deal was the best you could possibly do, you also lost a sale and a comission. I told you i wouldnt come back and ask a second time!

HONESTY IS ALWAYS THE BEST POLICY.

Hehe, I find your approach amusing, and the look on the salesperson's face must be priceless when all their hard earned sales spiel is all wasted on you :D
The worst are 2nd hand sales people... You walking: "I want that car, how much is it?", they'll say "How much do you want to pay?" (WTF!), I'll say: "Zero, let's negotiate" :D

However, I'm sure sales people know honesty is NOT the best policy, since they would earn hardly anything with people like you. Sad fact is, for every clued up person like yourself, there's probably about 20 mugs who'll pay list price, or be happy they got "'Free' carpet mats and a bunch of flowers"
Off topic, but I bought a Dell laptop once and they were throwing in a 'free' TV tuner. I haggled 20% off the price, and asked them what happened if I didn't want the free TV tuner, they said: "We'll give you another £20 off!"

Amusing??? maybe to some, my ex recons i was too agressive and arrogant when buying cars. All i want to do is to skip all of the rubbish and get the car i want at the best price for me. I am sure thats what everyone wants when buying a car. I havent got time for all the other rubbish that goes with it. The finance deals (salesman comission) the supaguard (salesman comission) the gap insurance (salesman comission) dont interest me i just want to buy a bloody car arrrgggghhhhhhh lol

oh and i have never worked in sales in my life. so i am no expert on thier tactics.

Ok, course it depends also on exactly how you delivery your aproach! If you ended up towering over the salesperson with a clenched fist, then I would have to agree it may be a bit ott...
I'd suggest if you're worried about that, then phone up a couple of dealers and tell them the price you want to pay and get them to call you back with their best offer. That way they can't try and flog you other c**p quite as easily!

Managed to get about 6% on 1.4TSI
Not the stocked car but factory ordered (beginning of March)
