Hi there, my scirocco doesn't have satnav built in, but will there still be a gps receiver in the roof fin?

Thinking about fitting an aftermarket unit and wondered whether I'd be able to connect it to the receiver in the roof, if there is one??

Three types of aerial on the rear roof of the 2009 Scirocco. One is a dummy type, not an aerial, if it came with an RCD510 Radio/CD only. If the Scirocco was ordered with factory prepped GSM phone or a DAB sting roof aerial, they both have GPS aerials built in.

If you put a photo up of the roof aerial, it can be determined by the differenrt shapes/sizes.

People who convert to the RNS510, just tuck the GPS aerial away inside the dash rather than go to the trouble of wiring up to the rear roof aerial.

So, will there be wiring from that already running to the back of the rcd 510??

So if my car didn't have Sat Nav, Bluetooth or DAB from new I'll need a new antenna to be able to fit an RCD510 with DAB that will work?

The fin is much narrower and the base differently shaped..

Yep, that's the "aerial" I have.

Can it be swapped for the one with the DAB aerial in it? Meaning can I get to it to change it, and is the wiring there for it if I do?

Or am I better off going for one of these glass mount DAB aerials and just sticking it somewhere in the car?

I'm a bit worried that a stick on aerial won't be as effective as the proper thing. Being away from the big cities the coverage here in the North might not be as good as it is elsewhere. And there's no point getting a DAB RCD510 if it won't work on DAB once it's installed.

My wife's mini has the DAB tuner, and having had the wider choice of stations I'd like to upgrade the Scirocco.

Thanks for your help. :)

Aerial can be swapped. Wiring.... doubt its there.

Perhaps it is worth surveying the aerial area by dropping the roof lining and having a look before committing to buy the RCD510/DAB & replacement roof aerial.

Hi RW1, i seem to have the dummy aerial and i am contemplating buying an RNS 510. Do you know if people who tuck the GPS aerial under the dash have any problems with reception or functionality? :?

Mine works perfectly well that way - signal strength never seems as strong as the nav factory fitted to our CC but it's not lost signal yet.

Dummy aerial is probably there 'cos it's cheaper to have one than have to have two separate roof panels for the cars production (nav / non nav - hole / no hole).
