Hello all,
Yesterday after collecting my car I started her up, (it was a wet surface due to earlier rain) and left the parking spot. I stepped down for a quick blast of power but instead of the front wheels spinning the front end (suspension or wheels I'm not too sure) made a sort of "bang, bang, bang sound and the car juddered. Needless to say I let go of the gas immediatley and drove on as usual. Was this a problem? Or was it some sort of driving aid kicking in to stop wheel spin?

Re: banging
Its called axle tramp. Check your front tyre pressures, tank flap states 33psi, but you will lessen it by running the fronts (& rears) at 30 - 31psi.
If you really want to get rid of it cheaply, then take the spark plugs out and set them to 0.75mm (29 thou) max.. I run mine at 0.7mm (28 thou) and have no problems with the banging. Its set off by very slight misfiring varying the torque output of the engine which is causing the tyres to snatch. Its the left front wheel that will be loosing grip mainly. Plugs removal explained here ....
I still get a little wheel spin occassionally out of the left front but is now wheel spin rather than a banging sound.
Also, don't stab the throttle, feed it in over a count of three and let the DSG do the rest.

Re: banging
Ok thanks for that help. How bad isit for the engine? I mean it did it for literally a second so will there be any damage? Also does the wheels snatching really cause such a loud banging sound? Lol scared the s**t out of me!

Re: banging
Damage now? Not really. But it ain't going to do the drive train any good long term to keep doing it. Wheel snatching makes the suspension strut bounce and the top strut mount. It is perfectly normal for a FWD car to do it if you whack the power on.
Learning to feed in the right foot is a good first step.
If you haven't heard a car do it before, then it will come as a shock as it does sound like you got a rapid fire cannon fitted in the front.
The quick & cheap solution is implement what I put above for the 1.4 with tyre pressures and spark plug gaps or fit these which off set the suspension to alleviate it. http://www.whiteline.com.au/product_det ... ber=KCA316" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: banging
I tried Launch Control once on my TDi 170 and it axel tramped like crazy. If I just floor the throttle from stopped it doesn’t do it but I guess using launch control when the turbo is already spooled up a bit induces it.
After a REVO remap I don't want to use launch control again because it can't be good for the longevity of the drivetrain.
