Should I? Golf R32 over Scirocco R

Well, this question keeps eating away at me.

Ever since I could drive I wanted a DBP R32 Golf. I've owned one for awhile now and I LOVE the car but I keep seeing candy white Scirocco R's boucing around the internet and I really fancy one.

Currently I have a TDI Golf which I also use to go back and forth to work. The R32 was bought as I thought about running it as a daily but the 25MPG and not wanting to put miles on it has stopped me, which led me to keep the TDI.

Do the Scirocco R's really get 35mpg? I could live with that quite happily, especially given the performance of them.

I have 2 other weekend toys (both currently off the road but one is due on the road next month) so in the long run I should save by reducing the number of cars I have even though the Scirocco is a lot more valueable (currently) than my R32.

How do people rate the DSG? I've never driven a DSG car but really fancy it now...

Last question....anyone fancy trading there white Scirocco R (DSG) with leathers and sunroof for an R32? :hyper:

Cheers,
Dan

I had a DSG MK5 R32 for 5 years and it was a difficult decision to sell it for a Rocco, although I considered a Rocco R I ended up with a diesel one as I'm doing nearly 30k miles a year.

DSG is a marmite thing, you either love it or hate it. You can only find out by driving one on an extended test drive.

I've had the Rocco for nearly a year now and don't regret the decision I made although should my mileage drop in the future I will probably return to the R fold.

Sometimes though you just want something different although If I was you I would keep the R32

I reckon my average over 28k miles in the R is around 27mpg

I rarely see above 30mpg even on motorway cruises.

Then VW won't be seeing a penny off of me... On motorway cruises in the R I can happily do 30mpg+.

With the cost far outwaying my R32 as well maybe I should stick to it!

Never got anywhere near 35mpg when I had my R, think the only way you are going to achieve that is driving like an old man, then what's the point of it ?

As for DSG had it on my R and would never own a car with it again, just found it a boring way of driving in the end much prefer a manual

[quote="Cuprabob"] I ended up with a diesel one as I'm doing nearly 30k miles a day.

Crikey Cuprabob, 30K a day? Thats one hell of a quick Diesel, exchanging my R tomorrow :)

Some days feel as if they're a year long :-)

Well if you drive for 1 year in your motor you will have done a light year distance wise. A tad faster and travel back in time to edit your mail.
Sorry Cuprabob, couldn't resist. I do the same myself and the wifey just looks at me in total disbelief at the biblical incompetence I display sometimes

I have a 2009 2.0TSi GT revo stage 1, on a congested motorway (this morning between 50-60mph) it will do about 35mpg, on an open motorway it'll do about 28-30mpg

I have done 22k now and my overall is 29mpg. I can easily get 35-40 on long motorway runs because when I'm buzzing around the local roads I'm constantly in S or manual mode driving it like it should be driven. For me its as good a "best of both worlds" as you are likely to get.

DSG is absolutely epic, auto for motorway and city driving, paddles for fun.

I would though be tempted to look at a Golf R is the price was right and VW dont plan on bringing out a new facelifted golf that is likely to have better front end styling.
