RNS 510 Sat Nav / Camera

Post by Kennowaybino »

I recently purchased a genuine Vw RNS sat Nav from a company down in Bradford (came out of a wrecked vw in Germany)
It works perfect but i also acquired the reversing camera to work alongside it , unfortunately the camera won't work with the sat nav. :? I took delivery of the camera from Prague and its a genuine vw part for the 510
Auto electrician is baffled, he says possibly if the sat nav didn't come out of another scirocco and for example a Golf that's where the problem might lie.
He also suggested it may need a module or something ? to make it compatible.
Can anyone please advise :? (codes ect all been checked and activated)

It shouldn't matter what car the camera is from. But have you enabled the camera in your cars CAN Gateway?

Yeah, CAN gateway was enabled, problem is not the camera but the what vw the satvav originally was fitted to , his theory is if it came out of a Golf for example it may not be compatible or may need a fitting (module ?) to make it work in my scirocco, really struggling for a solution

Rns510 is the same in all vw model.

The camera is different to most models. What camera parts have you received? Incl. cables.

Did you follow the instructions for the installation i sent you ?
All the connections are ok ?
Can you describe the problem? When you select Reverse, what appears on your screen?
Remind me something... Did you buy your loom from Kufatec?

I agree with Bianco that "Rns510 is the same in all vw models and that the camera is different to most models."
I can tell you for sure that you do not need any module to make your camera work..

Hi Giannis the camera was fitted by a highly qualified auto electrician, your fitting instructions were all e mailed on to him , he activated the codes but as he explained to me it comes up as needing a module to make it work
He is lost for an answer but i've to call him next Wednesday and he will do some research the over weekend

You do not need any module...
Check first your loom.
Tell him to disconnect the 26pin connector of the loom on the rear side of RNS.

Disassemble the connector of your loom Image Image
and check the pin order
The correct order is :
• Pin 12 --> Blue
• Pin 13 --> Green
• Pin 24 --> Black
• Pin 25 --> Brown
• Pin 26 --> Orange

If you have a different order carefully remove the pins from the positions that are already installed
& re-install them to the correct positions.

Numbers are written on the housing ends like : Image (Don't be confused by this image. It's from the male connector on the back of the RNS, just to see how the numbers are written)

Still no luck with getting the camera to work, auto electrician not sure what route to go down next, used Giannis wiring diagrams but without success.
Camera is genuine vw component bought from Prague and used by other enthusiasts on the site and was purchased at the end of March
RNS510 was bought from a company in Bradford and vw stamp on the back says manufactured October 2011 and also genuine vw component, could it be that sat nav needs programmed to work along with the camera ?
auto electrician got vagcom and vw use this particular guy for fault finding, so knows his stuff

If You have bought an original Scirocco camera, then it is a spare part for cars delivered from the factory with the proper wires as part of the existing wirering.
If Your car did not have a camera from the factory, then the proper wires are not part of Your car.

You need to buy the retrofit kit, which includes the wires. Look in the Roccopedia (link on top right of this page).

Anyone got any suggestions ? I had another camera (genuine VW component) shipped over from Prague to make sure the problem wasn't with the camera and auto electrician plugged it straight into the sat nav with still no success !
He says the problem has to be the satnav which i bought second hand from a supplier and came out of a vw in Germany stamped Nov 2011, this works absolutely perfect in every way except with the camera. All codes have been activated by vagcom.
Should i put this down to experience or take the car to radio workshop to have a look at the unit ?

You plug the camera into the RNS510. (videofeed)
Then you tell the RNS510 that a camera is present. (coding)
Then you feed a wire to the RNS510, which has +12 volt only when the car is in reverse.

Now when You put the gear in reverse the RNS510 should switch from what ever is on the screen to showing the videofeed with some overlaid info.

You really need to find a better electritian...

Auto electrician has an excellent reputation,He is also used for problem solving by both VW & Audi here in Fife Scotland.
Giannis has also very kindly been in contact with him offering his thoughts and expertise on the subject but still to no avail.
Thank's for your thoughts on the subject i'll pass them on (Appreciated)

I do not daught that he is excellent. The RNS510 just does not seem to be his strong side.

Scirocco went into an independent radio / audio workshop in Perth last Friday two technicians spent two hours looking at the camera,
Conclusion = we don't understand why it's not working ,?
Going into the main vw dealer in Perth next Wednesday, vw think it may need softwear but haven't seen or come across camera or installation before so not too sure what there looking for. I've spent a fortune on technicians looking at the camera and still no further forward in finding a solution

How about letting us know what has been wired to what, and what has been changed in VAGCOM.
Pictures would be helpfull as well.

With a little luck, someone can spot an error or omission.
