Smashed wing mirror :(

Hello,
Someone has just smashed my wing mirror and I was wondering if anyone knew anywhere that you could get it fixed other than VW, as I imagine they charge a lot!?
I have checked it and the indicator LED's work and as a whole I think I probably came off pretty lucky 'cos the wing mirror is OK but It's the clear plastic bit that covers the LED's that has been shattered. Any one know if its possible to just get this bit replaced or do you have to buy a whole new casing/wing. Im hoping I can just get the part and fix it myself! So upset that my baby has been damaged

It's a very easy job to assemble and disassemble the scirocco wing mirrors & I'm sure there is a guide floating around the internet somewhere.
I think the part you require, which is the whole of the lower front part of the wing mirror is no more than £30 to buy.

Thanks Stevie, I didnt seem to have much in the way of viper green on Ebay yesterday but I will have another look.
*Robmx, Sounds good! I wasnt too sure how simple the wing mirrors were on the Roc, so that sounds good! I will have a look around and see what I can find about taking them apart.
when you say £30 to buy is that from VW/Ebay or elsewhere?

That's to buy from VW, but, in all honesty, it's a while since I bought mine and I've forgotten how much everything costs, so it could be more, but is probably less.
This is a kind of a quick rough guide to doing the mirrors.
- Remove the mirror, Carefully lever out with a flat bladed trim removal tool or a plastic spatula then unplug the two wires.
- Remove the three (i think) little torx screws that hold on the rear mirror surround.
- Remove the top of the mirror housing, you kind of push it away and in towards the car. Try not to be too brutal as the clips can break (the top part of the housing is quite expensive iirc), but with some persuasion the housing should come off.
-Unclip & remove the mirror surround
-Unplug the connection to the indicator assembly and remove ( there are a few points around the mirror core where it's clipped in, but these are easily spotted)
So after that, it's just a case of replacing the broken indicator and refitting.
All I can say is take your time and look at what you're doing and it should be pretty easy.

Just had my mirror indicator lens replaced it was £22 + vat from VW as the job was done under warranty the total cost was £55 that was the part + labour + VAT , I had to pay but got a refund, (as work was carried out at a different VW garage to where i bought the car).

Hmm, just spoke to VW and frankly, they are trying to mug me...
£55 for the part plus the cost of it been sprayed, they then said I would need to speak to service for a quote on labour costs, for strip of plastic it seems excessive! I suppose thats what you get from dealers tho.. I told them I would go in in the morning so they can look at it cos im not sure that they are talking about the right part. The only bit that is damaged is the indicator plastic, the green part above it fine and the black part below is fine, electrics and lights work. I hope the guy who hit it has more damage to his...

They're definitely trying to mug you, nothing needs to be sprayed.
But just so you know, the black part below the indicator lens is part of the indicator assembly, you can't separate the lens from it.

Thats what I thought. Yea I said that to him on the phone, but he said it needed spraying, which is when I said I would go in and he can look at it himself. If they try and screw me over ill just get the part elsewhere, after what you said I reckon I could do it myself anyway so I wont be paying them for labour.

Sorry to resurrect an old topic, but came across this one as I was looking to replace my indicator lens. I noticed today whilst washing the car that it'd cracked (no idea how this happened). @lloydie63 can I just ask how it was covered under warranty? I thought warranty didn't cover wear and tear/ damage unless it's the manufacturers fault?
I have 11 days left of my warranty, and would like to get the work done for free if possible!
Cheers
Jamie

Driving down a narrow street today, another car comes the other way and I manage to clip a parked car with my nearside mirror. Mirror pings back and all fine, except on closer inspection my indicator lens has cracked and a small hole has formed. Hopefully can get it repaired cheaply as the mirror itself and its functions are fine.

Do it yourself mate. Get the part from vw for £26. It's a 10-15 min job max and all you need is a torx (t10 size head). Vw charge near enough £60 for the part and labour! Also, I'm by no means good with cars or parts!

Cheers Jamie, I may well do that, for such a trivial part I don't want to be ripped off by the dealer!
