Has anyone made contact with VW Customer services about the poor wipers on the Scirocco?

Nope, but I was thinking today how rubbish they are.

You can't even wash the screen with the screen wash without ending up with a smery mess.

I've had my drivers wiper blade replaced aswell.

(still love the rest of the car though! )

Sort of, a VW service centre replaced my wipers under warranty when the car was 3 weeks old - 1 month later they phoned me to say vw warranty had declined to cover the wipers and that I had to pay for them - I told them to do one but they kept ringing me back so I had to contact customer service to stop the service centre from harassing me.

They said on such a new car the blades shouldn’t be crap, the fact that the garage acknowledged that the blades weren't up to par then they should be replaced under the "car under 6000 miles" rule - either way they informed me that I should not pay a penny as the service centre should have clarified if the blades would be covered therefore it's there fault for saying "yeah no problem we'll cover it under warranty", and they certainly should not be phoning you up 4 weeks later asking for payment.

The vw service centre hasn't phoned me back to ask for the payment, neither has the VW customer agent who said someone will call you back to give you an update on the complaint against the VW service centre.

I can live with the rattle but the windscreen smearing every now and then is a complete shambles - I have good days and bad days.

Someone on the forum said that the tension on the arm can be tightened and that should fix the smear - I said this to a VW garage they said after looking into it, they came across some info that states in no circumstances should the tension be tightened any further - therefore they refused to try it out on my car.

I love my scirocco but I have to agree with the rest of you the wipers are horrible. Worst thing is that now I have a nice eliptical scratch on the driver side of the windshield. I'm pretty sure it happened because the left wiper loses touch with the glass at the end of the left swing when it cleans and it takes back some dirt across the glass! And I know what the VW center will tell me that it was my fault and the wipers are up to spec. Do any of you have the same experience?

I have spoken with VW Customer care regarding this matter, not entirely helpful to start with. They said what issue with the wipers!!

Anyway pushed it further and it is now at category 2, so VW Tech guys are looking into it. Hopefully will know the outcome today. The guy I was speakers with basically said they used to just swop the Wipers, but there is something else he has heard of to resolve the issue also.

So as soon as I know, you will know!!

cheers all

i'm booked in tomorrow morning to get the wipers replaced.

Initially i mentioned the problem while getting the pedals done and was told that is a known issue and VW are looking into it and they would get back to me once they have an answer.
Heard nothing for a few weeks, chased them up and hence the trip to the dealers tomorrow.

Will post an update once the wipers are replaced to see if problem is cured.

I phoned customer services today and there is no known issue on the VW System. Apparently a category ii issues means the dealer has to report back to VW HQ with a full breakdown of the problem which may lead to VW tech investigating the issue fully.

What about if we draft a letter to VW customer care listing all of the people on this forum who have this problem? Sort of a petition? May provide us with some clout if we get some serious numbers behind it. Just a thought

We should do!

I had a mark 5 Golf hire car last week and the wipers were perfect on it, makes the Scirocco's look like a joke! Its got to the point where I keep putting off cleaning the screen when driving due to the smeary mess which is left.

sorry for delay in posting a reply

I have had new wipers fitted and the problem is still there.
My dealer has basically said that they will send a report back to VW to find out what to do.
I mentioned that their are a lot of roc owners on this forum that have exactly the same problem and the fact that some have had the problem solved by getting the dealer to increase the wiper arm pressure.
I asked if they would put it in their report to VW in order to speed up a solution.

Shall keep you posted

I totally agree with all the comments on the crap wipers... also noticed that the entire wiper assembly when in service positions seems to be loose, well certainly not very securely fixed, perhaps this is the cuase of the issue as the flexible nature of the fitting is preventing the springs in the arms maintaing sufficient pressure on the glass to make a clean and effective wipe.
Personally I hate all wipers and find that a liberal application of Rain X removes the need to use the wipers at all unless travelling slowly (not something I do often) or in the heaviest of heavy rain storms. The treatement also stops dirt and other contaminants sticking to the screen and thereby slows the build up of everyday dirt and grime.

Hi All,
I did have this problem. I had to fight with the dealer to get the wipers replaced under warranty. They wanted me to pay €60.00 for wipers.
They said that they were a consumable item.
