My vehicle doesn't have the hands free phone kit [missed the date by 2 months for standard fitting!] - what are the alternatives - I've heard of 'Fiscon Basic plus' - will this work or what are the alternatives? all the controls are there - there must be a way of utilising them! Any suggestions

Fiscon is one of the better options, as is the OEM VW bluetooth units although you have to be more careful about which one of those you buy depending on your multi functional display type.
Either require VCDS to install, as some coding is required to enable the RCD/RNS and the MFSW. I find the fiscons easier to install personally, as they don't require coding for the unit themselves iirc (I'll have to check, I have a spare sitting around here somewhere)
I personally prefer those to the Bury unit, as there isn't extra appendages sitting on your dash. The fiscon can be easily installed on the steering column and is easily firmware updatable via bluetooth

My car had the bury kit fitted by the dealer when it was their demonstrator. At the time I don't believe the factory kit worked with iPhones so they thought it a better option. I had them fit the covered cup holder before I bought the car, and put the Bury control panel inside. This keeps things nice and neat, and as it's mostly voice controlled you only rarely need to push a button.
However... I'm now quite tempted to get the latest factory kit fitted. It does now work with iPhones, and I like the way it uses the RCD510 screen and steering wheel buttons.

I would retrofit the VW OEM unit - an easy afternoon job and it seems to work with all phones now. If you have the white MFD then the 7P6035730C should work.
Did mine a number of months back and it works a treat with my iPhone and my wife's Sammy. I got the VW RNS 510 9W7 UHV/RSAP/AD2P (7P6035730C) unit from the Bay. Search for 7P6035730C
