Hi guys,
Im considering getting a plain steering wheel cover just to protect it but as the bottom of the wheel is flat, would this be a problem?

Only reason I want one is because my last cars steering was starting to wear and tear a little. Id really like to protect the steering wheel going the same way. :)

Thanks guys.

in my opinion, its hard to find a good cover that fits the shape of the steering wheel. Cheap ones tends to slide around as well.

perhaps when it does reach the stage of knackered leather, you could consider getting someone to re-stitch a new layer of leather or restore it.

Langum: How long are you intending on keeping the car? For me the steering wheel is the most tactile part of the car (unless you have driving gloves), there's nothing worse than driving with a plasticky steering wheel. The state of the steering wheel shouldn't be a concern for years unless you have chain-mail driving gloves. Give the leather a feed a few times a year with a proprietry leather-care cream and enjoy the feel of that steering wheel as VW intended.

I hope you don't have the dealership leave the transit protective films on the bodywork and plastic bags on the seats when it arrives (if you don't already have it). :shake:

I intend on keeping it for a few years.

My last cars steering wheel just seemed to start wearing away and the car was only a couple years old. It was a Renault Clio but my brother has a clio and i've noticed it on his.

I'll probably just leave it, i don't want to take the look of the steering wheel away.

Thanks

New wheels on eBay are not that expensive, (well certainly a lot cheaper than from a dealer anyway :D) so if it is causing you issues in a couple of years, buy a new one. I did on my old 6 year old MK5 Golf.

Thanks, If I keep it long enough, I would probably do that.
