bluetooth compatability

Hi All,
Question;
My wife has just picked up a VW Tiguan with bluetooth, but cannot get it to connect to her ( also new) Nokia-E71 fancy phone, email, thingy.
It appears that her phone isn't yet recognised by the car & she needs to wait for an up-grade, can she get round this issue?
Or does she have to wait? or get a older phone for the car( which kinda defeats the point)..
