3rd Year Service Costs 2.0 TSI

Got some costs for my next car service (due at the end of the month) from Leicester VW- see below.
They've also suggested their Service Plan which is based on interest free monthly payments and covers the subsequent 3 years (the 4th, 5th and 6th year services). Not sure what to do - any advice? The car's only done 21,000 miles.
This year (3rd yr) –
mini service (£141) - oil and filter, diagnostics, inspection
MOT (£49)
Courtesy car (£12)
Total = £202
Next year (4th service) –
Full service (£339) - oil and filter, diagnostics, full inspection, plugs, filters (air and pollen)
Cam belt (£419) – 4 years or 110,000 miles (is this right?)
MOT (£49)
Courtesy car (£12)
Total = £819 (Ouch)
OR
Service Plan (covering the
next three years, i.e. 4th, 5th and 6th year services - I'd still have to pay for the mini service this year seperately) –
2 full services (£678)
1 mini service (£141)
Air con service (usually £79)
Brake fluid service (usually £59)
Plus 3 MOTs (£147)
35 monthly interest free payments of £27 = £945
(but the service plan excludes cam belt so I'd have to pay this on top, which is an additional £419)
Is it me, or do they not make it very easy to know what service you need when and what's included in the price - keep finding lots of 'extras' like the air con service and brake fluid service....
. If anyone know's where you can look this up, please send a link
Any help/suggestions much appreciated.
Cheers

As far as i'm aware matey, 2.0 TSI is chain driven. So your dealer isn't too reliably informed.

I would not go to the dealers for services cos the charge the earth and they no longer have the monopoly. Your trusted local garage can do it, fit genuine parts and you still have your waranty (poor spelling i know)

Those prices are on the top side. And as said above, dealer is not showing application! And in the detail you will find other things added when the invoice is presented which you may not really have needed.
Mini service as its called in the post, can be as low as £102.
Plus for the 2.0TSi there is no cam belt, belt only applies to TDi and R. So that’s £419 off straight away.
Go to Inchape chain of dealers and Air con/Brakes can be done in 3rd year for £99 combined. Aircon is not a service item anyway. Doesn't appear in VW schedules.
Standard 12 month interval servicing (not Long Life) – 2.0TSi
Oil: 1 year/10,000 miles with Oil Filter.
Air Filter: 6 years/60,000 miles.
Pollen Filter: 2 years/40,000 miles.
DSG 6spd oil: 40,000 miles with DSG oil filter.
Brake Fluid: First change at 3rd year service, then every 2 years.
Spark Plugs: 6years/60,000 miles
If on Long Life Servicing, pick up the above service items as and when duration /mileage coincide with Long Life regime.

Interesting stuff as mine is coming up for its 3rd birthday in March, I know I have an offer of an MOT for £10 if I go back to the same dealer but their labour rates may outweigh the saving on the MOT. I will be ringing around for sure.

The prices above make the £299 for 3 years servicing offer on new cars look very good value for money! Can't believe they are trying to charge you £12 for a courtesy car - this should be free!

Thanks everyone for the advice - has certainly made me think!
The fact that the car doesn't even have a cam belt made me laugh (I really should have known that - shame on me!).
I must admit I thought their prices were steep - and I wasn't reassured they knew what they were talking about - so I think I'll look elsewhere.
And the courtesy car should definitely be free!!

Just wondering would getting the car serviced by a local independent affect the resale value of the car? Or am I better sticking with VW servicing it. I need a full service this year minus the cambelt

IIRC the 2.0ts 200bhp engine has a cam belt, but the latest 210 is chain.

I have just taken out the 2 year VW Service option (shown on website) for £349 which gets you the minor and major service and includes 2 MOT's. Brake Fluid is extra and they recommend to do it but my mates a Merc Mechanic and did that for me at the dealer he works at as well as the air con so I didn't need it.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your PM but I can't reply as I don't have enough posts yet!
Re your question about advice on what to look out for in getting a scirocco, I can honestly say I've not come across much that goes wrong. Worth having a good look at the alloys to see if they've been repaired - they can be easy to catch on kerbs as they stick out a bit proud from the rubber. Check the windows drop properly on opening the door - they can stick sometimes but usually just a problem in icy weather (and doesn't happen often). Windscreen wipers can smear if they're wearing out (right across in front of the drivers vision!), which they seem prone to do - mine needed replacing after 5,000 miles, so worth trying the washers. But minor things really.
I'm sure others on here will be able to help - think there are posts elsewhere that I read when I was getting mine.
But best car I've ever had, and would have another! So much fun to drive!!
Happy car hunting!

No problem, took mine out 30th Dec and now it appears to have gone up to £379! Still pretty good value if you ask me

Think I've found it on their website - is this it?
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/serv ... -servicing" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Still looks like £349 which is better than Leicester quoted - they didn't mention this! Says "Prices are valid until 30th June 2012. Up to and including 2.0 litre vehicles."
Although..... on this page
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/offers/view/104" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ....... it says £379!!
And this page...
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/offers/view/1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ..... £349!!!!! Come on VW, sort it out!

I was worried about that myself - anyone here have any experience of this? Does using a main dealer for servicing really hold as much weight as it used to regarding resale value ?

Hi Guys,
Sorry to keep harking on about service costs, but is anyone actually going for brake fluid change at 3 years? Admittedly none of the dealers I have spoken to have been pushy about it at all but it could depend on where I take it to. It seems to be circa £60 to change it.
Although I am low mileage, they have been quick to point out that it is more on age than mileage (true I guess).
I may decide to take out the 2 year plan £379 as this seems to be quite cost effective.
Cheers.

Don't VW dealers price match garages with in a certain distance? Well on my first service I got them to. Is it not in their 10 promise code thing they keep going on about.

I played dealers off against each other and got 3rd service with brake fluid change for 149. Dealers were quite willing to match.
