New black roc coming. What to do?

Hi all,

I am hopefully picking up my new black roc soon (if the dealer ever rings to confirm they have secured it).

So the dealer keeps adding supergard to the deal, but I think as soon as I know it's on the way I will tell them not to apply it. So my question is, with a brand new black roc, what should I do to protect it? I have used autoglym resin polish and gloss protection on black cars in the past and found it ok and easy to use.

So what would you do? What product would you use and would you wait until spring to do it? Or should I just get the rip off supergard?

what ever you do dont get your dealer to do it its a waste of money you can buy the same product on ebay for under a tenner

Theres a few things worth mentioning when it comes to new cars.

The dealerships (and I'm talking 99% of them) will make a mess of preparing the car. They will wash your brand new pride and joy in about 6 minutes and use the same sponge thats been used all week no doubt on alloys and bodywork. Then they will most likely dry it off with a drying blade (cringe) and a chammy leather thats probably kept on the floor overnight.

Honestly mate, free or not decline the supaguard. For a start, its not a very good sealant, and you open the car up for the opportunity of even more damage from the rough valeters.

Now some people are going to read that and think its a bit extreme but if you saw how many new cars come out the the dealership with a mass of defects that were completely unnecessary you'd 100% agree with me.
what you need to do is tell the dealership that you don't want the car touching other than to do the PDI check and register it. Tell them not to wash it, and it will feel strange picking a car up a little grubby. Trust me though, its best to start off properly than have to pay to remove defects from the paint.

Either give it a good wash yourself with proper wash mediums and two bucket method etc

Or pay a pro Detailer to get it right from the outset! They are likely to charge less than a Supaguard treatment too for a good 10 hours honest work, rather than the silly amounts of margin made on dealership sealants

Cheers

Jay

Thanks. I will make sure it's not put on.

If I was to treat it myself, are the autoglym products I mentioned any good?

DO NOT let the dealer anywhere near it.

I bought a black scirocco in sept/oct and am still in arguments about the paintwork after the valeter they used scratched every panel on what was a spotless car with only 8k on the clock. God forbid what they could do to a shiny new one.

I have had to involve brand management and MD passenger cars UK and still Im having to do all the running and they still havent apologised to me.

Where abouts are you because if I were you I would get an external firm to safeguard it for you....cheaper and a much better service.

Manners, if your needing any external back up (and trust me, audi and VW have coughed up to me willingly many many times) or for me to have a look at the car and give a second opinion, give me a shout.

Another thing, don't try at let them sort it themselves. They simply don't have the skill to fix it properly. Even their body shops are only used to polishing fresh paint, and they still manage to ruin that.

Tricky, Autoglym will be better than nothing, but there are better products on the market these days that don't have some of the drawbacks AG still have (chalky etc)

Well unfortunately they have already had it back once to give it a cut and a mop.....when I turned up to collect it there were still swirl marks on the car, cutting compound left on the bumper and polish on all the seals, so I had to wait an hoiur and half while they re valted it.

Now the agreement is that I will be giving it to an approved VW body shop!!

They are useless and caused me so much stress and trouble!

Thanks all. Got a call from the dealers to say they can't get the black now. They have got me a rising blue with a raft of extras for an extra tenner a month so I am still happy.

I have told them to shove the supergard, so i will be detailing as soon as i get it!

haha nice one mate, thats not a bad deal at all is it, fair few extras there. pretty much my list of extras I planning on retro fitting by this time next year!

If dont mind me asking how much approx is that a month??

By far the best of the blues, best alternative to black def.

Parking sensors on mine made me the laziest parker ever, some times find myself parked and not having even looked, just listened for the beeps haha what does the winter pack involve
