Scirocco Central

Came out this morning after the first really sharp frost to find both windows had dropped by about 4 inches. Interestingly, it was raining heavily when i locked the car, yet the interior was dry, suggesting this had happened well after i had locked it. The drop was much greater than the usual entry drop. Any similar experiences/links? I also have a Renault, so i am used to things happening for no bloody reason at all, but i expect better from VW!

yep had something similar. Also windows all the way down

I had intermittent window problems turned out to be faulty ignition switch, others have also seen this issue!!

At least i know i didn't imagine it. The ignition issue is one to follow, as the windows often do a dance as i start the car. I think i will hope it is an abberation, but if it happens again, i'll go back to the dealer, ( though not the local one, if you read my last posts on the alarm saga).

had the ignition switch changed on mine the day before it went out of warranty, very common problem

Yep 'dancing windows' was my problem fixed by ignition switch change..............

Came out this morning, really sharp frost last night where we are, to find the passenger window had dropped half way down. Lucky we spotted it. We don't seem to have the "dancing windows" issue though. As it was only one side, do you think it is the ignition switch issue or something else?

Seem to remember RW1 mentioning a firmware update for early cars to prevent this.
Something to do with when the battery voltage drops below a certain level causing problems.
Batteries are at their worst in cold weather, especially if your doing short trips with lights and all.

Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Agreed it is most likely ignition switch, seen it happen to many more folk since this first happened to me two and a half years back..

Have a look at this thread, window drop was fixed by dealer.

Its a worry this problem especially nowadays with thefts & break ins. Where do you stand if you went out night time & parked your car securely locked & the windows dropped down unbeknown to the owner of the car & later on you come back to your car & find it to be vandalised or an attempt to be stolen?
