Brakes

Hello fellow vw drivers.

I have just acquired a 2009 2.0L TDI (140) in blue with 20.000 miles on the clock. It looks great and drives well. I must say I am disappointed with the brakes though, they are very sharp at low speed and fade when braking from high speed. I have just spent some of my hard earned money on this vehicle and wondered if there is a cost effective fix for this problem. I only intend to use the car for some occasional enthusiastic driving. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance

Richard

Its the pads, they are crap. I replaced mine for Mintex 1144's, which are about the same initial bite, higher speed braking is a lot better and once warm are more resistant to fade, better on track and good for road. Only major problem is, they really squeal a lot at low speeds. Mine stopped making noise when 50%+ worn. Im tempted to try something different, but its hard to find others who have.

Thanks for your reply fun meter. Sounds like you wouldn't go for the 1144"s again and they are a pretty penny. Hope fully other members will leave some feedback on other brake pads.

I find the breaks exactly as you do. Very sharp at low speeds and lots of fade when breaking from 50+

No worries. 1144s are good, but it depends if you can put up with the noise. I paid about £140 for a set (I think).

I dont do much mileage for work, but I do a few track days so I could justify the noise.

Pretty well any decent upgraded pad will be £100+ a set. Your basic upgrade pad choices would be mintex 1144's, mintex 1155's, ferodo FDS, ferodo DS2500's, Pagid RS's or CL.

Thanks for your replies, I've spotted some pagid brake pads (front) at £37.80 from Euro car parts. Cheap enough to give them a whirl me thinks.

There the same as the OEM pads... pagid are the OEM manufacturer for VAG cars.

thanks bOrk for the info, I would have been a bit miffed if I got some pagid pads and they were exactly the same.
