That's simple. Any VW dealer can de-activate the side airbags via VAS.

So with the original recaro seats the side airbags and the heat seats don't work?

The factory recaro's have heating elements but do not contain side airbags hence VAS/VCDS being required to disable the warning light.

I have just been through the (painful) procedure of putting Recaro's in and basically what you need is a resistor to make the car think that the seat airbag is still there. This will allow the VCDS to clear the airbag fault. If you dont do this i think that the fault will return.

They're way too expensive, but they really look great and quite comfy. Too bad they're illegal in Denmark.
