Really depends on how important a new reg. is to you. Might have some impact on resale value.

I don't belive the £500 fine but I do believe it would impact their 2nd quarter sales target. Sales are only confirmed on delivery as is the sales person's commission. I think you'll find that's the real driver for delivery in August

My dealer asked me if i wanted mine ASAP or for 1st Sep but I decided ASAP because private plate going straight on and to be honest with the amount of miles I do and time I keep a car 61 vs 11 will have almost no impact come resale to me.

Can they really "fine" you?

I ordered mine in mid April under the advice of the dealer as I didn't want to take delivery before the end of September and there was a 6 month wait. Well it turns out that I got a week 26 build, so it should be arriving fairly soon. My situation has not changed so I still won't be collecting until 24ish of September and my dealer is absolutely fine with this. (Although it will be painfull to see it all alone at the dealership, i'd rather it was there than sitting in an airport car park for 3 weeks!)

im guessing the fine bit is a extra push for us to give into them and get an extra sale before the end of august but in my case i still have a car to get rid of meaning the cash isnt even there to pay for the new one and for them to ring a week before is a bit short notice .. and when they havent been in contact for over a month i just thought it was on target for a sep delivery .. to top it off the car wasnt ordered until the end of may how can they get it so quick, some dealers were telling me they couldnt get a car until end of year!

Anyway update from dealer he is trying to tell me the car is valeted and ready to go out (even tho he said next thursday) and that it wouldnt have came to dealer if i wanted it for september .. (why didnt he ring and ask before getting it there?? ) so now he says he needs to ring vw themseleves to ask if he can keep it !

if he says we have to take it next week .. basically the deal will be off and ill probably have to loose my deposit as i cant physically get that much money in place in a week and tbh i dont want a car 4 weeks before new reg as when i want to change in a couple years the value is bound to be affected .

Get your commission number from the dealer asap (if you haven't got it already) & ring VW customer services to query (& if needs be complain).
As Cuprabob says, the dealer just wants to bump the sales figures for this quarter up. If you had it agreed at the time of order that you wanted it for a september delivery you will also be in a stronger position but definitely mention to them you ordered when you did & didn't press them because you wanted to take delivery in september which is when they were telling you delivery would be at the earliest.

also, to assist in having the full picture, what did they tell you last time they were in contact?

I think they will be reluctant in giving me the comission number but i suppose i could try ..
Yeah im guessing thats the case , when we first ordered he said it would be possibly the end of september, october time .. but then i had a call about 4 weeks ago to say that the car was going into production and would definitley be here for september delivery and if i came earlier they would be able to keep it in the compound for me (which by the sounds of the last phonecall obv isnt at the dealership - hence this so called £500 fine ) if you look on my original order form the estimated delivery is the end of november so i dont know where they get such different dates.
Unless it is a company car i dont see anyone really want a car a few weeks before the new reg it doesnt seem to make sense if youve just paid 21k+ for a motor surely you want it to have the newest reg.
thanks for the help guys

New reg is just vanity IMO, but I can understand.

Go to your dealer and talk to them face to face and explain the situation to them and I'm sure it'll all be sorted out and they'll hold the car until Sep.

It's amazing how things are different when you're looking straight into their eyes.

Amgray I think your dealer is just trying it on my dealer has been very flexible. I ordered in April with expected delivery of October, was informed yesterday my car has been built and is being shipped and asked if I still wanted it in October or earlier. Earliest they could handover was last week in august but I have settled on 1 September at 9.00am but they were willing to keep it until the date they had said originally.

yeah think they defo just trying it on to get the sale over and quick probably for targets or whatever .. think a trip down for a face to face is due tomorrow as the salesperson is apparently off today.

im pretty sure a huge company like benfield which has two vw dealerships within 10 miles have space to hold one car for a few weeks, so i shant be giving in .

This is virtually the same outcome as me. I ordered mine middle of May on the dealers advice of a 16-20 week delivery time. After 6 weeks got the call to say it was being built week 26 too. Mine is now at the dealers storage facility and I am picking it up late Septmber like you. My dealer is absolutely fine with this and has confirmed that there is no problem with keeping it until then with no change to the terms of the deal we made at the time of ordering.

Spoke to dealer today, car arriving tomorrow and targetting a Saturday pick up. Just sorted out 7 days free VW insurance to get it registered.

Nearly there :-)

Hi guys!

I've recently booked a Scirocco here in Singapore (early July) and the dealer informed me he will be able to provide me with a build date next week. I was wondering with a build date available, how long does it take before it gets onto a ship? Of course, being in Singapore, I am expecting the boat to arrive later than you guys in Europe. Oh and the dealer told me to expect the car to be delivered sometime between Dec 2011 thru to late Jan 2012. Yeah I know that is a hell of a waiting period. :(

Ordered 27th June. Just got home to a message from the dealers saying my car has turned up! :shake:

Car has turned up 2 months earlier than the dealer quoted, picking up 1st September. Going to be a long couple of weeks.
