Monday, I drove an A5 Sportback (didn't have the 225PS standard 3dr) and as a loan car a VW CC. Interesting indeed.

:D - thanks. Yeah, used UKLee's how to - brilliant guide. Had one unsuccessful attempt a few months back with him as well, so I knew exactly what I was doing, since I had seen the steering wheel come off before.

The actual job took me just under 1.5hrs, I think that was the bit I was most proud of :D. Spent the other 1hr running around shops when I found out I needed a M12 spline bit and not an M14 one :eyepop: Pretty glad I had a tools shop not too far away in the end ('cos I had already popped the airbag off)

I hired a car to get my parents from North Wales to Newcastle and back as they don't fit in the Scirocco very well.

I was given a free upgrade on Christmas Eve as they had no other rentals to send out and as I didn't fancy an Astra or a pig ugly Fiat 500L, I chose their Passat TDi Bluemotion. Lovely cruiser. 400 miles on half a tank. I don't even get that on a full tank in mine!! Very quiet and smooth at 70 but really gutless in 5th and 6th for any kind of acceleration but I guess it's geared for what it's designed to do. It was only pulling about 2000 revs at 75mph.

I have always admired the fit and finish in the Passat every time I have been in one - really well designed and put together cars. Quite a different beast from the Roc of course!

I test drove a Passatt CC a few years ago just to sample the DSG box. Although comfortable and smooth, it felt like I was driving around my living room after the compact confines of my Roc!

Gave him his first wash of the year, between rain storms. Also applied some rim wax.

Looking sweet, stretts.

Which rim wax did you use and am I right presume you apply it to the whole wheel, not just the finished surfaces?

drove it 50 miles before the check engine light came on, popped into a vw dealer, they diagnosed air intake manifold.

only 9 trips to the dealers last year (petrol release flap, horn, spot-welding chassis, suspension, clutch, trim, various bulbs) and i made it two days into this year.

gutted.
