Dunno if this helps anyone who HASN'T ordered DSG, but my story so far is:
Ordered 3rd March
Given unconfirmed BW 15
Had an update yesterday and given confirmed BW 20 (17th May). Was told the car should be here within 3 weeks after that.
The delay is somewhat annoying as I'm basically going to be carless (not Carlos) for a few weeks.

After going thru the forum I contacted Inchcape southend ref.the cancelled 'R' as is almost identical spec. to mine and now have a deposit on it as well as my original car. Trouble is they want £36K for it and won't budge. What a rip off as is a pre vat and price rise car and mine is a fixed price of £33.3K.
VW have tried to reslove it with inchcape as a goodwill gesture but they are not interested and won't do any kind of deal with my dealer.Still i suppose i could keep the original car on order and sell it at a healthy profit when it finally turns up.

Not of any help for your price I'm afraid but the dealer won't actually pay the VAT until he sells the Car so although it may be a pre VAT increase when registered he will still have to hand 17.5% over to HM Revenue & Customs when he sells it

I am glad you could make use of the post. I did not think it would take long for someone to make use of the situation. Ill have to speak to the delaer and see if I can get commission!

On another note, I did not get a deal on the car as such. They were very firm on the no discounts stance.

Finally my car will arrive at the dealers on Monday - what a long wait!!!

UPDATE!!!!

Got in contact with my dealer today and have been informed my car isn't unconfirmed anymore but it isn't confirmed either?
He explained VW have told him, because he was unsure as well "This is because build wk 23 is to close to the start of production of the 2011 model"
So it will be a 2011 model R and at this rate it will be 2011 when i get it!!!

Dose this sound about right? or are they feeding me a load of bull$hit

it will either be confirmed or unconfirmed it can't be none so I suggest you get back to him & ask him straight out, its one or other so which! black or white, no grey please.
also bear in mind cars usually got to confirmed about 3-4 weeks before build which would make it week 22ish (as we are near the end of week 18) meaning it will be a 2011 model

I can't see them specifically holding it back to make it a 2011 model as then they would have to give you a spare wheel & extras

Yes I am the same unconfirmed week 23, and I orderd in NOVEMBER!!!! What a joke. i just called VW CS for the 400th time in my life and they have confirmed mine is going to be a 2011 chassis and it looks like thats what they are waiting for, they start building them on week 22, a bloody long wait and I have already bought my 2010 plate

I suppose it would make sense if the initial run was a limited amount then they would likely do the same for the second run, last I heard I was week 27. Although, I wont tell you when I ordered, it will only anger you further. I can only imagine the dealers in some cases lost out for the initial run.

Im not saying its right though lol

Just got a text, mine arrived at the dealers last night, was due Monday - just off to view it, pictures to follow later!

At last! I have a reg number and it should be with them next week. I think they are over-charging me by £600 though so more hassle needed, their not the sharpest tools some of these VW dealers!

Also they now tell me there is a 2.5% charge to pay the balance by debit card. Is this right?

No - a percentage bank charge is applied to a credit card transaction. But, for a debit card transaction, it should be a flat bank charge of something like £1. So tell 'em to get stuffed with their 2.5%.

2.5%??? sure that's not the VAT increase they're making u pay????

It's finally arrived, pick it up Monday, but got a little test drive! Got to wait for the registration and the VPP. Bring on Monday!

I hope not, they have already hit me with the VAT increase. Actually dealer just called to say that it was 2.5% for credit cards only. He has also thrown in Gap Insurance for free (I did pester him about it though). Happy and looking forward to picking up my R in just under 2 weeks!

Just had some even worse news, as you all know I orderd mid november last YEAR! I am now unconfirmed week 28 This is a joke, I have now been told I am looking at September delivery 10 months!!!!!!! Even the women at VW CS couldn't believe it and there seems their is nothing anyone can do about it
