rumour mill surrounding that car, just to fuel fire to that 5 cylinder TTRS engine would be rather nice but lets not be greedy
I'd say chances of that engine finding itself in a Golf or Scirocco are slim to none.
I'll see if I can dig up the actual article, but I read that VAG had stated categorically that the TTRS engine would not be going into ANY other VAG cars. That's not to say that I necessarily believe that, but I'd go with true on the slim to none chance of seeing it in a Golf or Roc.

I read that the TTRS engine is solely for that model and would not be fitted to any other car! Surely the RS3 is getting this engine? Just shows not everything you read is true!

I think it's been developed inhouse by Quattro GmbH so it wouldn't surprise me to see it in the RS3 but don't think it will make its way into anything other than an Audi.

Having seen a GTI 3 door in graphite blue Im liking the GTI much more but I still think it represents terrible value for money. You can get a new S3 for less money than a half decent spec'd golf. Im planning on getting a scirocco for a couple of years and then look at the golf R

The press are due to get them around the end of August. So I guess dealer demos will be sept/oct.

Hi Guys.

I contacted my local VW dealer and registered my interest in the Scirocco R a couple of weeks ago and booked a test drive in the 2.0 Scirocco GT last thurs as I thought I'd see if VW build quality etc is as good as it's cracked up to be (my previous cars being a Fiesta XR2I, Escort RS2000 and a 2004 Honda Civic Type R running 280bhp). I was really impressed with the finish and build quality, but when it came time to talk about the R model, the dealer knew less than I did. I subsequently found this site and after reading several threads emailed the dealer my findings about the price of the R, colours and options as he knew nothing! I was an active member of the Civic Type R Owners forum and was pleased to see the Scirocco had a similar following and I have to say, a knowledgeable one.

I have to admit that I was hoping the R model would come in around £27k but it seems it's more likely to be around the £31k mark once you tick a couple of options. For me, although I love the practicality of having a quick hatchback and thought the R would be a fantastic replacement to my highly modified Type R, I much preferred the test drive I had in the new Nissan 370z. It's better looking (although the Scirocco is pretty stunning), quicker and an interior which rivals that of the R.

I will probably hold out for a test drive in the Scirocco R as my dealer said he is hoping for 4 "R" models (2 golfs, 2 sciroccos) and I want to make sure I make the right decision. However, I will certainly keep my eyes peeled on this forum for more info.

Cheers guys/girls and keep on posting!

Hi Joe,

Welcome & thank you for your kind words, we try to find out all the info we can & the thanks to the dedication of all the members for getting to the bottom of near enough everything.

If you are going to be interested it may be worth you finding out if your dealer has any deposits down on the R models yet, current estimates are that dealers will get an allocation of 2 or 3 scirocco's but I believe this is the standard models as well as the R so the allocation will go very quickly once the order books are opened.

think you are wise to try before you buy given thats a lot of cash for a fwd car, i accept the flaws (2wd) of my GTI which is 300bhp mapped as it was under £24k new (including Revo map), not sure the same could be said based on those figures (i'd have to map the R as would be slower than my GT) :eyepop:

i'm not giving my Golf R slot just yet though :yummy:

I just went on the VW site and saw the 'R' and thought hmmmm doesn't look all that over a standard GT....

Then I ticked a few options that I would have on it and the price was nearly 32k !! Madness for such a car. I was dissapointed and thought 'I wonder if anyone else is dissapointed', so looked on here!

For that 32k you are treading on big big car territory, such as a Cayman S, (997) 911 Carrera.. SL55 AMG, M3 etc etc etc....

As much as I love my new 'Roc, I know which i'd put my money on.....

Seemed to have missed a trick again VW, just bloody let your hair down for once!
