Is there anybody with the know-how that is prepared to add some voting buttons or something so we can get an accurate number of people who's cars do or don't make the really annoying rattle ?

I borrowed my old bosses brand new A5 with the same engine... guess what, it makes the same noise, but is harder to hear has it has more sound damping and a different exhaust.

Mine has got much quieter with age. My proffesional view is its not a problem.

After only owning my tsi for a week I was driving without music on early this morning and I noticed a kinda metallic rasping noise at certain revs.

I agree with some of the other posts, it does sound like a heat sheild vibration at a certain resonance.

In addition I thought it might have been to do with the lower temperature outside, as it was 3.5'C at 7am when driving, also after driving for about 20mins it disappeared...

I had the car at the dealers this morning to replace my headlights as the old ones were constantly misted up with condensation, so while the car was there a got them to check for this noise.... surprise surprise they found nothing.

I wonder if this could be related to outside temperature? I while keep an ear on this and get under the car at the weekend.

Need to get to the bottom of this as I agree it aint right, ruins the nice exhaust note.

Anyone got anymore info on this issue?..

Cheers

Yes, a simple clip. The part number is in the topic. Its fitted without trying to bend it to maintain the clips pressure correctly on the control rod hinge joint.

Nice one.. A simple fix then?
Is this the part number "06J 145 220 A"

Is it something I could do quickly myself, as I don't mind working on the car, used to it with the Cupra..lol

Cool, just watched the how to guide, how much are VW charging for this clip in the UK?

I take it we are talking pennies?

Lol... Not $75 as in the how to guide then

£20 I could handle

Yes it is under warranty, I will ask tomorrow at the dealers just don't want to be without the car for a full day or anything like that, especially if I can do it in 5-10mins.

Will let you know how I get on.

Apart from that loving life with the scirocco..

Just for the record, I had the clip fitted earlier this year and was hoping to wait, but they asked me to leave the car with them to allow it to cool down first.

So yes - very quick fix but they may not do the work while the components are still hot :-)

I think as it costs me about £12 to get a taxi from VW to work and then the same again getting back, I will just get the part and fit it myself.

For info the part costs £14.84 from VW parts dept.

I take it if I fit this i wont void my warranty?

Warranty... :shake: As said, just do not bend it open more than necessary so the clip retains its squeeze strength.

Ok I will give it a go, I have ordered the part anyway.

Will hopefully get it tomorrow morning when I pick up my new scirocco luxury mats.

Picked up the clip this morning, just fitted it.

It is a bit awkward to get it in place but once it was it gave a reassuring click.

Quick cuppa then off for a test drive... Many thanks guys.
