What exactly did you say? I want it sorting but dont want to get fobbed off..
Read Page 1 of the thread, all the info and reference numbers are there. I just told them that's what I wanted and with the bulletin reference they never had the option fob to me off. They could have tried the "that doesn't apply to your vehicle sir" routine but that'd be a hiding to nothing, they just ordered the part with no discussion at all.

The recall paperwork states ' rattle heard from engine between 1750-3000 rpm on acceleration'. I just told the dealer this and listed the reference number given in the previous posts. VW Cirencester were happy to take it from there !

I think this be such a big issue (based on the number of these TSFI engines out there) that they cannot claim ignorance for long !!

Engine does sound much quieter now...

I am having a bit of a fight with my dealer to acknowledge and deal with the problem. A mechanic I took out could hear it but said 'Its nothing unusual'. Two e-mails have produced no response. I am now writing to the Manager and see what happens - I will be quoting (and printing) this thread!

Rang dealers today..told chappy on phone in service department the problem..gave him the bulletin number, and part code. He had no idea as it wasn't bringing it up on his system. He took the numbers down tho, so when I take it in on Friday I hope they sort it.

What does this sound like?!?!? - Is it the creaking you can hear when the music is off? lol. That's all that I hear.

Creaked sounds more like the windows moving when going over rough ground.

Maybe, but I keep hearing of this wastegate issue, but don't actually know what it sounds like. I have a different exhaust system on mine, so interested to know.

It is a very distinct tinkling sound (almost like pinking) which comes can be heard between 1800 - 3000 revs, particularly when accelerating (i.e. making the turbo work). The exact range seems to vary car by car. Mine is worst from 2500-3000. It is not massively loud, but I can just hear it over the radio and it is an annoying feature.

Phone call from dealer today; they have the clip and will fit it under warranty next week - and loan me a free car! The dealer did say that this is an american fix only - not for the UK according to VW but they are happy to purchase the clip (£4) and fit it as a gesture of goodwill. Good for them!

Crap. 2021062/7 is world wide.

I suggest you change your dealer after this job.

Disagree - they may not have the right take on the fix, but they were helpful and utterly cooperative. They are good dealers I have been with for 5 years!

Really don't think I have it. My exhausts make a wooshing sound sometimes when the throttle is wide open, but a "tinkling" (not sure what pinking is) sound, I don't recall. So musn't have it.

Why do dealers keep pretending that they don't know all about the rattle?

Still waiting for the call here :(

Mechanic had never heard of the "rattle" problem or the job number. They're going to keep it all day to see what they find.

Hi Ryy

I must be showing my age. Pinking is what I used to get in the old days before cars had good IT control over ignition! In the good old days of distributors and HT coils if the ignition timing was too far advanced, the fuel/air mixture would pre-ignite - a good few degrees before top dead centre (tdc). This resulted in a characteristic tinkling sound - called pinking! Wastegate rattle has a very similar sound - and actually similar symptoms - i.e. it happens when accelerating at lower revs...

There - more useless old knowledge from the school of oldgitwiki! Have a good day!
