I used to get around that out of my Audi S3 2.0TFSI, one of the reasons i got rid was the ever increasing price of fuel.
Just done about 80 miles mixed driving in the Rocco and averaged 45mpg, quite pleased with that.

I know what u mean but i can't see me ever swapping for a diesel (altho the Alpina D3 Bi-turbo does interest me)
instead of worring about increasing price of fuel...i just use it as excuse to ask for payrise or to find a better paid job!

I have just come from a BMW with the same bi-turbo engine as the D3, although the engine is very good the rest of the BMW experience left me cold, poor ride and build quality being the main probs, the Rocco is much much better to drive, slower but nicer to drive.The bi turbo engine in the BMW is excellent, I had a Evolve remap done and it was pushing 263bhp according to the dyno really did transform the car and still returned 45mpg average.

No, i think I will leave this one standard, although a few more horses would be nice, but I think all that torque would result in tyres not lasting very long. We will see.

I get around 280/300 out of a tank which is a mixture of town driving and A roads with round abouts, etc.. . So lots of braking and accelerating again.
If I do a long trip on the motorway I can get about 350 odd out of it but thats only once in a blue moon.
Coming from a heavily modifed Mini Cooper S that averaged about 18mpg the scirocco isn't too bad :o

I have bad news for you; I was getting the same for the last 3 months on a mix of roads; I decided to drive like a saint (why should you have to with a 'roc??) and got the princely mpg of... wait for it... 30. 30 mpg for driving like a nun. Another disappointment.

With respect to roc diesel drivers, I would suggest that the 1.4 tsi petrol engine, which constantly fizzes, pops and crackles enthusiastically, gives character to the 'roc. I chose it over the 140 diesel as that engine lacked any drama whatsoever. It was quick and very torquey but the soundtrack didnt match the stunning looks at all. I also didnt want to sound like a taxi....
So, take the rough with the very smooth and enjoy your Tsi engine. Its a total peach. Some things in life are worth a little extra.

Trust me, you've made the right choice, the 1.4 is a much better drivers car.... Diesel costs more at the pumps too don't forget, servicing is more expensive also.

I am sure thats the case, I researched wqhihc engine over 6 months ago (as thats when I ordered!) and it was the best decision then.
I wouldn't care about servicing but the car I have at the moment (Golf 1.6 Diesel 2011) is lovely, except for the engine!!
gotta love a bit of Disel bashing!!

i do a 70 mile round trip to work every day and am getting on average 55-59 mpg, but that's driving conservatively/boring.

We went on a 80 mile round run last week and got 58mpg going there and an impressive 63.8mpg comming back
When we did our first few longer runs just after we got him we were getting mid-high 30's urban,mid 40's+ on a Combined cycle and around 57 on a good run
Now we are nearing 3k on the odometer we are getting mid 40,s Urban, mid 50,s - early 60,s Combined and over 64? On a Extra Urban Run???
Not sure on the extra urban just yet?
On or best run last week our journey changed from being Combined to Extra Urban part way through the last bit of the journey the Mpg was improving every few hundred yards so hard to say?
Most probably the longest trip i ever do is to Mums which is about 180 miles constant (Wiltshire-Wirral) with 500 miles on the Odometer we acheived 58mpg now we get that combined sometimes
Im guessing next time we do that run we will get at least 65mpg Extra Urban maybe even towards 70mpg?
Now the car is starting to run in i had a very short run to our local supermarket this morning to get some heavy items,the car was cold and still hadnt reached normal temp when i got back only about half a mile(about a quarter of mile each way) and still got over 30mpg
Ive noted if you do constant town driving all day long as long as the car doesnt sit for too long and its still warm everytime a new short journey starts even 50mpg is easily acheivable around town
Dont let that Engine/Diesel fuel get cold its costs economy LOL (thats a licence to drive all day

With respect to roc diesel drivers, I would suggest that the 1.4 tsi petrol engine, which constantly fizzes, pops and crackles enthusiastically, gives character to the 'roc. I chose it over the 140 diesel as that engine lacked any drama whatsoever. It was quick and very torquey but the soundtrack didnt match the stunning looks at all. I also didnt want to sound like a taxi....
Fizz crackle and pop? Sounds like you have some warranty issues there. Soundtrack? You must have the special edition V8 1.4

The 1.4 is for people who hate diesels but won't get the 2.0TSi for various reasons (insurance, cost etc), there isn't a lot of drama with the 160 (it's a little quicker from standstill, but is lacking in torque) - try the 180 variant in a smaller car like an Ibiza Cupra and it seems a bit closer to the "drama" you talk about. It was brought in at a pricepoint - many 2.0TSI owners think the 160 is inappropriate for the Roc (they also think that of the TDIs). Either way, it's a mass produced everyday car with sporty looks, it's not a sports car - VW will put in whatever engine will sell in numbers.
The diesel sounds pretty good when revved, it's got quite a roar to it, throatier than the 160. As far as diesel clatter goes - you must be talking about a 10 year old Peugeot engine, the 2.0TDI has a tick, not a rattle.
Everyone has a reason for the engine they choose, but the TDI is in no way inferior to the 160 TSI.

Nicely put ; I test drove the 140TDi before buying. The general character of the car was of a smooth, relaxed GT but I have to reluctantly agree with the TG boys on this one. Sorry! The 160 Tsi impressed me greatly and continues to do so. Razor sharp acceleration, happy to rev cleanly, with what I perceive to be a pleasant and encouraging matching, characterful exhaust sound that is a result of supercharger whine, turbo whoosh etc. (Wish it was a V8

This weekend did Kent to Hampshire (200 miles round trip) on just under half a tank of 99RON Shell V-Power (Petrol). Running a 2.0TSi with Stage 1 REVO. Everytime i use standard 95RON unleaded yes i save £5 per fill up but it doesnt last anywhere near as well as the 99RON .. plus the car loves the extra power
