It's the bracing bodywork under the bonnet. It heats/cools at different rates to the thinner unsupported panels so gives you pretty patterns :)

Had those lines on my bonnet too. Knew they were something to do with the engine / bonnet area and not alien works. My mate was wtf is that dude? when he first saw it.
