I would give this a go if I know that all the parts needed are available from my VW dealer and it would be plug and play ( no lengthy reprogramming ) .
A complete parts list would be handy as a start point (is it just the parts listed above).
All the above must be available as its now an option abroad.

The programming for the golf just involved telling the RNS that you had a camera installed with VCDS, the rest was running cables :)

Running the cables, removing the bumper and cutting the hole no problem but take it I would have to get the dealer to do the programming as I don’t have access to the VCDS or is this to something I can buy

you can buy vcds but its not cheap, what most people do is get someone local with VCDS to do it for them, a few forums run VCDS registers.

Will check out the VCDS info but will also have a chat with my dealer and see if they will do this for me after buying the parts form them.

Would have thought VW should look at fitting the camera as a retro fit and offer it as a workshop service,
Maybe there is a specialist company out there considering fitting them.

I'm sure Richter Sport could tackle this. They did an awesome job retro-fitting OEM rear parking sensors to my Roc which interfaces with the RNS-510 to display the reversing graphics just like the factory-fit parking sensors

I emailed them about the reverse sensors and they said they did one before but considered it to much work so won't do anymore lol, so not sure how they will react to the camera

I am more than confident to fit the camera in the bumper and run all the necessary cabling but if the software part goes wrong I would be up shit creek without a paddle

Oh right! That would be my car they were referring to then! Yes, the project of fitting them did turn into a big headache for them... Means my car is unique now then :vibes:

Well mine is almost ready. I'm waiting for the parts that go into the bumper to hold the camera to finish it.At the moment when i select reverse i see my trunk! It took me about 2 1/2 hours but it was not extremely difficult.

Are you going to put up a full parts list kit for every one with a few photos of the installation areas/cable routing?

Which radio set have you hooked upto? (RNS510, RCD510, etc?)

I used camera 5 K0 980 551
cable 5M1 970 161 AC
4pin connector 3B0 972 722
repair wire 4x 000 979 131
And I'm waiting for 3 W0 807 151 and 3W0 807 210 B.. (the supports for the camera that go on the hole of the bumper)
I connected it to a Rns 510 ver B.

is that the proper scirocco camera ?

Yes. But i think the right cable is the 3M... .
My camera didn't had a P/N written so I assumed it was the scirocco's.
After a little search i found i might be wrong.
So I think the right combination is 1K0 980 551 camera with 3M.. cable
or 5K0 980 551 camera with the 5M cable. The second is the golf's
Both will fit!

Yes! That's mine.
The 1K0 (scirocco's) is exactly the same but with opposite the blue connector (male-female)

Sorry if I am a bit slow here but the water is a bit muddy regarding the parts list (camera and cable) can you verify parts list for the Scirocco.
What about software will it need the CD or is it plug and play. Thanks

Well you can use the 1K0 980 551 camera with the 3M1 970 161 AC video cable. These are for scirocco.
I used the Golf's 5K0 980 551 camera with the 5M1 970 161 AC video cable. Which will fit exactly too.
Yes it needs vag com coding.
About the costs the camera costs ca 180 euros the video cable ca 60 euros the supports ca 40 euros. The repair wires and the connector ca 10 euros. These are all Greek prices. Probably UK prices are cheaper.
