Hi

I think you will find that my car was the first on this forum to report rust on the tailgate- May 14th 2011 (with photographs)

The car model year ten (July 2009)

As can be read above (post Saturday the 28th May 2016) – the repair was carried out – but the rust returned within months ! – requiring a further repair,!

It seems that most of the cars with this problem are from a similar time-period.

However, not long before I sold my car (2015) further signs of rust were beginning to show/develop.

1. Inside the drivers car door – at the lowest left point there is a black bolt/screw from which rust could be seen - which I assume means that there is a possibility that rust ‘May’ be inside the door itself….. (door open looking down to lowest left point)

2. When opening the driver’s door where the sill meets the main pillar – rust was just beginning to show below the paint/lacquer ….. (Door open – looking inside the car near to where the base of the seat-belt would be)

3. Same as 2 above – but on passenger door.

I no longer have the photographs – so the description given is the best I can offer.

Rust certainly seems to be an issue – and where a repair has been carried out the result is not always successful.

Hope this info helps.

Regards

Jeff

Mine does have some rusting around one of the metal bungs. Not as bad as Mr OCD - but if VW are doing goodwill I'd like a new boot. I have a full VW service history and was considering putting it in for a VW full service this/next month for £300 odd, wonder if they'd chuck in a boot lid.
Simply put the car has a 12 yr anti-corrosion warranty... it is this you claim on. As long as the car has a full VWSH, it should just be a case of arguing...

It is only a little corrosion, then it is more likely it will be repaired. Mine was replaced as there is no way a repair would have been effective.

Thanks, that's quite interesting. I might give it a go. I mean, it's rusted similar to your first image, but on only one of the plugs. The rest are fine. I might send them a picture, see what they say.

Cheers
