I have watched the BBC highlights now, indeed what a fantastic race. It was a shame I knew the result while watching. I noticed again how quickly the Mercedes pulled away after the safety car restart, I think after 3 laps they were something like 7 seconds clear of Perez!

I think the Red Bull still looks an efficient car and would still expect them to do well at tight twisty circuits where all out engine power is not so much an issue. You can see the body language now in Vettel which is almost a bit resigned, I think he knows a 5th consecutive title is unlikely this year. Still this is good for the sport, it was getting very monotonous seeing Vettel winning race after race in the latter part of last year.

Williams have been a bit of a relevation, but still have not had the luck on their side to haul really big points in.

As for Maldonado - what an idiot, he has been involved in far too many incidents, surely he could have avoided Guiterrez?

Yeah Maldonado is a law unto himself. He got a 5 place grid penalty and 3 points on his license for that. I wonder what the odds are for him being the first one to be banned for a race under the new points system.

Great for Lewis in todays Chinese GP, although frustratingly again (no Sky) I followed it by following the live updates on the BBC website accompanied by R5 Live, not bad - but not the same as seeing the thing live!

Talking point was of course the 'tough luck' comment by Vettel when asked to move over and let Ricciardo past! It must be a bitter pill to swallow now that he does not have a winning car, and being out paced by his team mate!

A dramatic turnaround for Ferrari (in Alonso's case at least), displaying good pace after the poor display in Bahrain and McLaren are currently the worst performing team with the Mercedes engine!

Barcelona will probably see a host of new developments, parts and other performance enhancements from the teams, you can be sure Mercedes wont stand still. I am still amazed at the reliability from this new technology (at this stage of the season). It really is testament to the designers and engineers to get this tech working so efficiently and reliably so quickly.

Lewis Hamilton has now won every race on the calendar at least once apart from the Brazilian Grand Prix and this year’s new venues. Vettel also needs one more win to complete a clean sweep. He is yet to win in Hungary.

Victory in the Spanish Grand Prix meant Lewis Hamilton became the 13th driver to win four races in a row.

Three other drivers on the grid have also achieved that feat: Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel.

Hamilton is now eighth on the all-time list of race winners and needs one more win to equal Jackie Stewart’s tally of 27.

Hamilton also picked up his 35th pole position and now leads the drivers’ championship for the first time since the 2012 Canadian Grand Prix.

Mercedes have taken pole, won and led every lap of every race so far this season.

Only three drivers in the field have completed every racing lap this year: Nico Rosberg, Fernando Alonso and Valtteri Bottas.

Alonso and Ferrari have now a year without winning a race. During that time only Vettel, Hamilton and Rosberg have claimed victories.

Nico Rosberg’s win at Monaco means he has now equalled father Keke’s win total.

This was Mercedes’ tenth one-two, half of which have come in the last five races. The last team to score one-twos in five consecutive races were Ferrari in the 2002 Hungarian, Belgian, Italian, United States and Japanese Grands Prix.

Ninth place for Jules Bianchi meant he scored Marussia’s first points in their 45th race since the Russian-backed team’s first race in 2012. Prior to that they started 38 point-less races as Virgin.

That leaves Caterham the only team in F1 today which has never scored a point. Like Marussia, they changed their identity in 2012 having competed in the previous two seasons as Lotus. If they fail to score a point in the next 11 races they will equal HRT’s record of most starts without a point.

Valtteri Bottas’s power unit failure meant he failed to score a point in a race for the first time this year, leaving Rosberg, Alonso and Nico Hulkenberg the only drivers who have scored at every round.

Mercedes extended their streak of leading every lap of the season so far. They are the first team to lead every lap of the first six races since McLaren in 1988, who didn’t fail to lead a lap until the start of round eight at Silverstone.

Predcted weather so far is clear and sunny for qualifying and race. Kind of expecting Hamilton to come back hard after Monaco, he usually goes very well here.

Daniel Ricciardo became the 105th driver to win a round of the world championship with his victory in the Canadian Grand Prix.

Fastest lap went to Felipe Massa for the first time since the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix. The last Williams driver to set fastest lap was Bruno Senna in the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix.

The Williams pair took fourth and fifth on the grid, which was the team’s best combined qualifying performance since the 2010 Brazilian Grand Prix, when Nico Hulkenberg qualified on pole position and Rubens Barrichello lined up sixth.

While Ferrari marked Kimi Raikkonen’s 200th ‘race start’, it was in fact his 199th. Raikkonen has participated in 201 grands prix, but withdrew before the start of the 2005 United States Grand Prix as did all the other drivers on Michelin tyres. And although he took part in the original start of the 2001 Belgian Grand Prix, that race was later abandoned due to a red flag, and Raikkonen did not take part in the new race.

Max Chilton’s record of being classified in every race he had started finally came to an end following his first-lap collision with team mate Jules Bianchi. Chilton was classified in his first 25 starts, beating the previous record of 16 set by Tiago Monteiro in 2005.

Only 6 drivers on the current grid have raced at the A1-Ring. Button, Alonso, Raikkonen, Massa, Magnussen and Kvyat.

Only 3 of the last 7 F1 events here have been won by a non-pole driver.

Nico Rosberg’s Austrian Grand Prix victory means he has now won more races than his championship-winning father. It was the sixth of his 155-race career, giving him one more than Keke Rosberg managed in his 114 starts.

Rosberg now has a better average qualifying position and has led more laps than Hamilton.

Rosberg also became the 11th diver in F1 history to score eight podium finishes in a row. The only drivers to do so without winning a world championship are Juan Pablo Montoya and Carlos Reutemann.

The all-time record is held by Rosberg’s former team mate Michael Schumacher, who reached 19. Rosberg is closer to beating his current team mate’s tally: Hamilton racked up nine in a row in his first nine F1 starts.

The last pole position for Williams was Pastor Maldonado’s at the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix. With Valtteri Bottas joining Massa on the front row, it was the first time Williams had claimed the foremost spots on the grid since the 2003 German Grand Prix, when Juan Pablo Montoya took pole position ahead of Ralf Schumacher.

Following his career-best qualifying performance Bottas went on to lead an F1 race for the first time and take his first podium finish. Massa came in fourth fourth, giving Williams their best two-car result since Nick Heidfeld and Mark Webber finished second and third at Monaco in 2005.

While Williams are on the up, Sauber are enduring one of the worst spells in their history. They’ve failed to score for the last eight races in a row, which is their longest point-less streak since 1998.

A double retirement for Toro Rosso means they have the worst reliability rate so far this year. The STR9 has broken down eight times in races compared to Lotus’s seven.

Austria marked the 200th race start for Kimi Raikkonen. During that time he has won 20 races (10%), set 40 fastest laps (20%) and 16 pole positions (8%).

Great race though and good to see Hamilton win at his home race.

Excellent park and ride too. Much improved over previous years. I went from my Woodcote seat to my sofa in under 90 minutes.

Fantastic weekend!!

Stayed in the nearby Hilton and bumped into some of the Williams team.

Lewis Hamilton claimed the 27th win of his career in the British Grand Prix, which was also the second time he has won his home race. His victory moves him level with Jackie Stewart’s tally of 27 world championship wins. Only six drivers – including Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso – have won more.

Hamilton lined up sixth on the grid, the lowest position he has ever started a race he went on to win. His previous best was also at achieved at Silverstone, from fourth in 2008, which he repeated in Hungary the following year.

Nico Rosberg gave Mercedes their 25th pole position. It was also the eighth of his career, giving him as many as Jenson Button, John Surtees and Ricciardo Patrese. However in the race he posted his first retirement of the season, bringing his run of eighth consecutive podium finishes to an end. He had also scored points in the last 17 races – a streak bettered only Kimi Raikkonen (the record holder with 27), Michael Schumacher, Alonso and Vettel have bettered.

Alonso is now the only driver to have completed all 561 racing laps so far this year. He also kept up his record of scoring in every race this year, as did Nico Hulkenberg.

Jules Bianchi took advantage of the rain in Q1 to claim his and Marussia’s best-ever starting position with 12th.

Massa marked his 200th race start at Silverstone.

Button’s hopes of scoring a first podium finish in his home race were dashed once more on his 15th appearance at Silverstone.

Two drivers made their first ever appearances in F1 practice sessions on Friday – Daniel Juncadella for Force India and Susie Wolff for Williams. The latter became the first woman to participate in an official F1 session since qualifying for the 1992 Brazilian Grand Prix – 8,126 days ago – when Giovanna Amati failed to make the cut in her Brabham.

The last time a German driver won the German Grand Prix in a German car was back in pre-world championship days, when Rudolf Carraciola triumphed at the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 1939.

Rosberg took the seventh win of his F1 career, giving him as many as Juan Pablo Montoya and Rene Arnoux.

Hamilton’s brake failure in Q1 resulted in his lowest starting position since the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix, where he lined up 24th after being excluded from qualifying after running out of fuel.

Valtteri Bottas became the second driver this season to score the first three podiums of his career in consecutive races. Daniel Ricciardo did so in Spain, Monaco and Canada – having been stripped of his podium finish in Australia. The last driver to do so before them was Hamilton in 2007.

The strong run of form from Bottas has helped move Williams up to third place in the constructors’ championship. They haven’t finished a championship that high since 2003, when the were second.

Bottas also gave the team their 300th podium finish. Only Ferrari (679) and McLaren (485) have more.

On the other side of the coin, Sauber have now gone ten consecutive races without scoring a point, which is their longest ever such streak.

Adrian Sutil also took an unwanted record in Germany – he started his 119th race without finishing on the podium, breaking the previous record held by Pierluigi Martini.

Sebastian Vettel finished in front of Daniel Ricciardo in a race for the first time this year. That leaves Kimi Raikkonen as the only driver yet to beat his team mate in a grand prix this season.

He is the 73rd driver to win more than one race, and joins other two-time winners such as Wolfgang von Trips, Patrick Depailler, Jean-Pierre Jabouille and Elio de Angelis.

On his way Red Bull passed their 3,000th lap in the lead. They are fifth in the all-time list but need almost twice as many again to catch Lotus, who are on 5,623.

For the second race in a row Hamilton broke his personal best record for most places gained during a race. Having made up 17 in Germany, he climbed 19 in Hungary (aided by Daniil Kvyat failing to get away on the formation lap). The all-time record position gain is 30 in a world championship race (Jim Rathmann, 1957 Indianapolis 500) and 26 in a Formula One race (Roberto Mieres, 1954 British Grand Prix), both of which are obviously unbreakable for now as the current grid is too small.

It was Mercedes 100th Formula One race and Hamilton’s 50th podium.

Alonso is now the only driver to have scored at every race this year – Nico Hulkenberg’s crash on lap 15 ended a 12-race run of points finishes which began at last year’s United States Grand Prix. Force India’s run of points finishes this year also came to an end when Sergio Perez crashed out.

Jenson Button became the eighth different driver to lead a race this year, heading the field for a single lap. The last time a season was completed with no more than eight different race leaders was in 2011.
